You haven't noticed it ever since Perdomo? :huh

    Kessler's amazing years were 2003-2007.

Gotta agree with you there scar, he is and always was very good . . . but never great. I think the Move to LHW might be good for him, he might have more power at the new weight . . . hell he could be better than ever. I guess he stayed at 168 since it is bigger on that side of the pond and now 175 looks like it may have more European comp for him to fight now.

I would say he has a chance but Im not as confident for him as I would have been. He just cant get out of the way anymore and seems so much slower.
Ward would beat him in a return, I think Bute would stop him now and any moving boxer or boxer with a good workrate I think would give him trouble, including Steiglitz, Dirrell, Groves and DeGale though Kessler may still know a bit too much for Groves or DeGale

    I agree entirely.
The Kessler who fought Mundine, Beyer and Andrade was an well oiled beautiful boxing machine in my eyes; i remember asking myself when will Mikkel look like a boxer, as he always appeared unmarked after his bouts.

I believe he struggles with his vision and various physical injuries; i would hate to see him hurt in this business. He better gives Froch a revanche and then hangs them up, he's had a fantastic career and should leave on top.

He has options but I wouldnt place many bets on him now. I think he and Froch would be an even match up still, but im not sure with the others, I think anyone with a bit more speed and energy than him now could give him terrible trouble

well he is 33,not to say that he is not still a pretty gut fighter, but just th fact that he got knockdown, says maby that he is pasthis best.

Probably guys trying to puff up Ward by making it seem he beat a prime Kessler. (which nobody but Calzaghe ever did, and that was at the tail end of both their primes...Joe arguably having exited his...)

Which is foolish, because even with Kessler being past his prime years it was still an excellent win for Ward. He dominated a still-game Kessler - even leaving the butts-n-cuts issue aside.

Kessler was levels above fighters like Marcus Beyer, Eric Lukas, Mundine etc. and also Froch (at Kessler's prime), but he was probably always just a little lacking in versatility against Ward and Calzaghe.

    Anyway..

If Kessler was never great then where does that leave fighters like Froch, Beyer, Lukas etc.? 'Mediocre' by those harsh standards?

And someone like Allen Green then... would be a journeyman I guess... or a novice.

Yeah I think Froch is still an even fight for Mikkel as Froch is slow and has a low workrate. I felt Froch was slightly past his best before he won his first world title, when you compare him to when he first turned pro, though he did turn over a bit late. Froch is 34 and has aged alot, so Froch Kessler would probably be another classic give and take battle

no matter what kessler did, what Andre Ward coulddn´t do,knock out Green in greens natural weight...Thats okay for a fighter everybody say is done...allot of people have said kesslers been done for years..but he still keep on winning. He´s not 25 anymore and have had alot of fights.i think tonight he has the right to be proud...

Not a great, but very much solid world class and a SMW great, proven in becoming a 3 time SMW champ, proven in the way he beat Siaca easier than anyone else who was WBA champ, Beyer clearer than anyone else who was WBC champ, Mundine who had been WBA champ and became WBA SMW champ after losing to Kessler. Back then he was barely losing rounds, if you compare that fighter throwing fast straight combinations who was on his toes to a fighter that in quite a few fights now has looked flat footed, slow and throwing wild often missing swings rather than his old straight shots.
I think there is a big difference

The fighters you name in Froch, Beyer were world class SMWs but not as solid as Kessler who was a top SMW in his prime

Agreed. Im not looking to knock Kessler, he is one of my favourite active fighters, but I was shocked at how much different he looked this time out

Kessler got 1 or 2 more wars left in him. Kessler vs Cleverly would be FOTY worthy, and it is a fight I think Kessler can win since Clev aint a big hitter and Kessler is a experienced veteran. Kessler aint done yet, just the decline is going to get steeper and steeper as time goes on.
