IMO it was exceptionally close, and wouldn't have had a problem if the decision went to Oscar but the only way to get a win over money is to knock him out because he is always going to win on points. But Oscar, for the part time fighter that he was late in his career gave Money a tough close fight! That's why Floyd wanted a rematch so badly, not only for the money they'd make but because he might have been disappointed in his performance.
So Oscar did all what you said and Floyd looked lousy, and in your mind Floyd still won by 4 rounds??:huh. The fight was closer than that, dude!
The truth is, Oscar pressed Floyd the entire fight. When both were fresh, Oscar's aggression, countless combo's and a good jab, outweighed the odd clean counter Floyd would land. This is why larry merchant had Emmanuel (who LOVES floyd) admitting Floyd was going to lose the fight if he didn't pick it up and fight harder. Oscar was all over Floyd and Floyd didn't have the power to slow him down, but Oscar started gassing at around the 8-9th round. This is where Oscar lost the fight and Floyd started picking it up and landing more clean punches. Oscar did have a good 12th round, winning it on 2 judges scorecards. The fight was a lot closer than *****'s like to admit. 115-113 Floyd.
Floyd was forced to use ***** 10 oz gloves just like when he had to fight Cotto. Everyone is too scared to fight Mayweather with 8 oz gloves.
No. Floyd had the playing field stacked against him in that fight. Small ring, huge pillow gloves, fighting at a higher weight class, was probably outweighed by like 20 lbs on fight night, etc. Not mention Oscar was very motivated for that fight thanks to Floyd's pre-fight antics. Oscar wasn't prime but he gave a very good performance showing that he was still a dangerous opponent. I really wish he hadn't gassed because it would have been real interesting to see if Floyd would have stepped it up knowing that the decision may have been in doubt. Remember anything Oscar did, regardless if it were effective or not, got a huge reaction from the crowd. Could have easily affected the judging, and it did considering it was a SD. When I watched it on PPV it was obvious that Oscar was having much success other than the occasional flurry. But it would look completely different from ringside. Either way the right man won the fight and apparantly one judge scores arm/shoulder punches.
