Circle him, use good lateral movement and counter in combos. Pick your spots to get off first....use the jab, pot shot a bit and wait for mistakes. Beware of firefights.
Pacquiao is a rythm fighter, and the key to beating him is to disrupt his rythm. It'd very hard to do because Manny is so fast and so powerful, but JMM has proved it can be done. Is Bradley as good as JMM? Not imo, no, but he has a few similar qualities (feints well and at the right times, excellent timing, good combination punching, accurate punching, bags of heart, determination and excellent recovery powers) aswell as some different ones of his own. JMM disrupted Pacquiao's rythm by using feints, using the jab as a weapon rather than just a range finder, and with that perfect right hand which he often threw from out of range. He used good variation when throwing the right hand aswell. Sometimes he'd throw it as a single shot, sometimes he'd throw it off the jab and other times he'd throw it as the last punch of a combination. Bradley's jab, combination punching and ability to judge distance would allow him to use a similar tactic. One thing that Manny does when he's about to throw the left hand is he drops his head and all of his bodyweight to his left. He does a similar feint aswell where he'll drop his head and his bodyweight to the left but he won't throw the left. He'll do this and his opponent won't know if he's going to throw or not, it must be a ****ing nightmare to fight, especially with his hand and footspeed aswell where he can land it from what seems like an impossible position/distance. IMO, he needs to get Pacquiao coming forward. He won't win this fight by being the aggressor as Pacquiao is almost unbeatable when he's going backwards and throwing hard, fast combinations from those crazy angles. If Bradley comes forward all night and throws caution to the wind then he's getting knocked out imo, simple as that. He needs to avoid getting caught in that mid-range because Manny is devastating at mid-range, he must ensure that he's either inside or out of range at all times. When inside, he should throw a 2/3 punch combination and then tie-up immediately. Show off his strength, show Manny that he's the stronger man and that he's not to be ****ed with. He needs to gain Manny's respect. Pacquiao respects JMM a great deal and, as a result, he was very, very tentative last time out and that's the worst thing for a rythm fighter like him. Bradley's timing is actually pretty good and it's not something i've ever seen anyone praise him on. Marquez's timing in the third fight was absolutely majestic, and his right hand was insanely accurate. Bradley has a very accurate right hand and Manny isn't exactly hard to catch clean with one. Bradley's footwork is very under-rated aswell. He CAN follow a gameplan which involves boxing at range, throwing combinations, moving off at angles but fighting effectively on the inside when he has to. He did this expertly against Peterson and boxed his ears off. LaMont Peterson is obviously no Manny Pacquiao and i'm not for a minute suggesting this would definitely work against Manny simply because it did against Peterson, but it's Bradley's best bet imo. Who do i think will win the fight? Manny via wide points decision, so i've just wasted my time in typing the above.
He must box Manny Pacquaio. Manny lost 2 fights by way of knockout early in his career. His latest loss came at the hands of Erik Morales. He needs to got to sleep and wake up to the tape of that fight. Morales laid the ultimate blueprint to defeating the Pac Man. The last thing Bradley really wants to do is get into an all out firefight with Pacquiao. He can trick them into thinking that he wants to fight toe to toe but he must have a strategy to outbox Manny Pacquiao. That's the way to go. Use intelligence, Use his natural athletic ability, use his mobility, and use his high boxing IQ to frustrate Pacquiao and force him to make mistakes. He must also end off his combos with body shots. Double up on the left hook to the body and throw them with force. Pacquiao is way vulnerable to body shots so focus on body work and focus on outboxing him. Slugging it out is not the way to go. He's too fast and he has a solid chin so he must be drawn out of his game and outboxed.
I enjoy reading all your stuff :good Fantastic reply, thankyou. If I wasn't so damn tired all the time, I'd go back to typing answers like that I'm going for Bradley. (Note that I also had Hopkins and Mosley in their last fights) I think Pacquaio has lost some spring in his legs, and is there for the taking. Bradley is prepared to walk through hell. He can win this fight with his mentality. (Not a technical post I know, but I've put plenty of those on the first few pages of the thread :yep) Great reply :good I agree that the Morales blue print is the better one to follow, even compared to the Marquez one.
Thanks, SJS. I have to disagree with the Morales blueprint being the one to follow though. Manny is a much improved fighter since then. The legend that is Nacho Beristein said it best when he explained that Manny is technically much better nowadays, compared to the "wildcat" at 130. His right hook is fantastic and he didn't have this in the Morales fight. I wouldn't say he was a one-handed fighter because you don't get to his level by being one, but it was certainly something an elite fighter like Morales could exploit. His right hook initially came to light against Diaz and he used it brilliantly in the Hatton fight. He's not as reckless as when he fought Morales either. The cut clearly bothered him in that fight aswell and it was still a very, very close fight (115-113 Morales is how i had it), plus you have to remember he wasn't wearing the socks of his choice.
I think what's valuable about the Morales game-plan was the well-timed aggression Morales used to back Manny up and neutralize his aggression. Manny is a lot better at controlling the center and countering than he was, this is true, but he's still there to be timed and pressured. Both Morales and Marquez established lead foot position, feinted, baited, & countered, and then after landing, followed up with a combination through or around the guard. Morales though was much more physical and voluminous in his follow up. If Bradley can establish the right rhythm, circle, land, and explode with bursts of inside activity from time to time, he can win the rounds big and neutralize Manny's own aggression. He'd have to fight the perfect fight, though; ultimately, I think Manny's footwork will prevail whenever Bradley is unsure of Pac's movements, and Pac will start confusing him enough to land his signature punches by the mid-late rounds.
I'd prefer a fighter to follow the Morales blue print rather than the Marquez one because I feel what Erik did is more transferable, as opposed to the Marquez blue print which is very much specific to the unique abilities of Dynamita. I mention on one of the first few pages that Nacho was spot on, Pacquaio fights in a more refined manner these days which is probably to his detrement. Pacquaio isn't as dynamic as he was, which enables fighters to establish defensive rythm and a base to work from. I wouldn't suggest following Morales' example to the letter because as you quite rightly say, Pacquaio has evolved from that point. There are some aspects of that game plan which I see as key though. 1. The straight right hand to the body. This slows Pacquaio's legs which are in my opinion, his greatest defensive and offensive wepons. Bradley commits to the body, which is a huge plus for him in this fight. Land a straight right, even follow up with a left hook to the body. He needs to take away Pacquaio's legs, to diminish the possiblity of Pacquaio creating new angles. Morales did this with the straight right, Marquez did it with the left hook. The danger of throwing that straight right, is Pacquaio's much improved right hand. Morales could throw a straight right downstairs without overly having to worry about a right hook coming back at him. Bradley will, so he needs to DOUBLE his jab to disguise his action, place his left foot outside of Pacquaio's right, and dip into a right hand to the body. 2. Double the jab. Not a flickering jab, he needs to throw a stiff left jab, and move off to his left. Keep his foot outside which opens up the angle for his right hand. 3. If Pacquaio tags Bradley, bite down on the mouth peice and get close, push this guy and unload, show him that he's not the ring general, and that you're prepared to war with him.
