Kessler fought a FOTY candidate last year when he beat Carl Froch. He had an injury that sidelined him, he comes back and KTFO of a named opponent instead of an unknown club fighter. I'd say he's doing better than a lot of other guys out there.
Its one thing if you dont think hes great. but dont compare Kessler to Judah please thats a huge insult to kessler.
i remember saying even going back to the super 6 days that green had the style to beat kessler if his head was on straight...hell he nearly proved me right with that KD in rd 1...but he kept his chin too high up and kessler flattened him...i was surprised at this because kessler has never really shown that kind of power in his fights
Problem is Green's head is never on straight. He focused on ONE thing (his punch) and tuned everything else out completely. Watch the replay in slo-mo. Green never saw that punch coming at all ffs! His hand which should have been guarding that side of his head was dropped. This was pretty much akin to Floyd's KO punch of the tree.
Well, assuming his default reference place should be considered the ring, he was definitely back, inside a boxing ring this Saturday evening. Nothing more/less.
To be honest, I think Green is one of the few opponents Kessler could KO like that. The left hook was HUGE, and opponents like Ward, Dirrell or Bute would be somewhere else. Still a hell of a knockout, though. They dont get more savage than that.
To be fair I have not seen the fight so I cannot judge, though I did not expect Green to see the last bell. I'm assuming the KO was impressive since he stopped Green in the early stages of the fight. I can't help but put this into proper perspective...Green is a career 168lbs who has fought a good number of fights at 160lbs his stamina and chin are more than questionable and his heart and desire meter go south pretty darn quickly. Still Kessler is a credit to the sport and is a solid all around fighter.
First I'll be honest about Green. He didn't look bad at all. Actually I thought Green looked pretty sharp. Had Kessler badly hurt. Watch the fight and even the visually impaired could see Kessler on wobbly legs. Then Kessler goes on to knock Green out cold!!! Yes! Kessler gets hit more after Montoya took over but that's clearly a deliberate trade-off. To point out negative things about Kessler based on his performance against Green is misguided.
Kessler looked very good to me. OK, maybe not vey good but better than I expected. His comeback after the KD was pretty impressive, even if Green was majorly at fault for it. I give Kessler props for the manner in which he treated this fight after being KD. At a higher level that 1st round could have cost him the victory, but I'm not here to talk on that. BUT.... what I don't understand: people being OK with the "let's call it a slip instead of a KD". That could have weighted a lot in the end.
No doubt. Everyone touts Froch as being so great, but he was life and death for 2 rounds with Kessler and lost! Still, a great two rounds, and was a candidate for Fight of the Year.
yeah, or judah against baldomir and spinks, where he has more tools but he just fails because of the lack of mental toughness.
