We're talking about the most hyped up fighters in the world. Fighters that come from that area of the world have a hype to substance ratio that makes normal boxing fans sick. It's because of these facts that it pains me to see people say fighters like Hatton are underrated. If Hatton was from some random eastern euro country, no one besides hard core fans would have heard of him. He wouldn't have feasted on bums for an entire career, and he wouldn't have fought at the pinnacle of the sport where he didn't belong. The british hype engine is what makes these lopsided fights at the top of the sport happen (see: Haye-Klitschko, Hatton-Anyone). They hype up fighters WAY too early and it leads to the same inevitable disappointment. I'm beginning to feel that they genuinely enjoy disappointment; that's why they absolutely ignored Lewis until he was KTFO twice. Look at the forum today...the same exact nonsense is happening with Price. He is being hyped up as the next ruler of the HW division. The cycle goes on.
so what americans have not had lop-sided defeats to klits? hatton lost twice....thats it...both against the p4p number one. ...it wasnt too many years ago americans were hyping arreola. ..how about 'the next tyson' jeff lacy?
Yawn. That's what fans are supposed to do, hype up the fighters they like. Just because you lot are **** fans don't start hating lol. And yes we brits are used to disappointment, just look at the English football team. Doesn't stop us being better supporters than anywhere else.
im wondering then....was Jeff Lacy over-rated or Joe Calzaghe under-rated? This was they guy who before the fight according to american 'experts' would KO Joe within 3-5 rounds. A guy who had too much power for the likes of Joe. A guy who would walk straight through Joe's slaps......so was the american overated (suprise, suprise) or the brit underated?
Lacy was criminally over-rated; as is Joe. The fundamental difference is America's ability to say a fighter was over-rated. The British will fight to the death to convince the world that their guys were truly capable of defeating King Kong himself.
Let me set the record straight. Pay attention. The only people who ever gave a ****, or ever will give a **** about Jeff Lacy are CALZAGHE FANS. No one else ever says his name, no one else ever will. He is a nobody.
I won't use Polish because none of you Brits would have a clue as to what I'm saying "Brittard" is ESB slang, you and I as anyone else can use it if you're interested, the closet to "Brittard" in Polish is "Angol" (user Angol is from England and is the complete opposite of the Brittard twats who hate on Poles)
"brittard" is not esb slang .You're on the american boxing forum ,so why have english flag in your avi ?
Agreed about the Calzaghe fans. However, I would say Lacy was a failed experiment rather than a nobody. 168 was a very new division and America didn't have a top representative in it so there was no domestic money there. The networks did a "Great White Hype" to Lacy. After all, with his pitter-patter style Joe looked laughable. The networks figured a decent fighter could beat him, they just didn't send a decent fighter.
