As for being over hyped, Lewis and calzaghe were pretty legit champions and Hatton beat everyone and only lost to 2 of the best p4p fighters of this generation.

People call Khan a hypejob but in time I think he will be a top 5 p4p fighter, he will beat Bradley and have a great fight with Kell Brook perhaps involving a rematch, he may face Floyd also but I think he will lose. IMO I dont see anyone beating Him at WW in 2 - 3 years after Floyd retires

But guys like Price/Fury etc... who are at the start of their careers get hyped up by the media and then casual sport fans get on the bandwagon, real boxing fans know that they must prove themselves 1st.

Or Bob Fitzsimmons. English fighters, and let's face it, fighters from all over the world who are/were not an American, have been often underrated.

I remember reading an article in KO many years ago, listing the top heavyweight prospects of the day. When it came to Lennox Lewis, who got a tiny mention, the attitude was: He's British...and we know how that ends.
I think the actual line was something like: "Lewis looks like a good prospect, but he's British and could likely end up another Horizontal Heavyweight."

It brings a smile to my face, thinking back on that line now. (And no, I'm not British.)

 

It's undeniable that the UK is a hype machine when it comes to boxing but it's actually good for the sport. It sells tickets and ppvs and a lot of people in the sport make money because of that hype. The only downside is it generates a lot of stupid posts on boxing forums. I mean you got people who STILL think Khan is the future P4P king for goodness sake.

 

Has anyone who is saying British fighters are overhyped ever watched a fight broadcasted in Britian? Even when they are kicking ass the commentary are talking them down, saying 'yeah it's a great performance but how will he do against the [Insert name here]s of the world?'

It isn't our fault that the media over here are like bloodhounds, on a boxing forum with actual boxing fans you should only talk about things relevant to boxing, the British media is not relevant to any sport, let alone boxing, actual fans of every sport ignore it and have their own opinion.

Yeah he have our idiots but which country doesn't? Alexander the best thing since sliced bread, Proska undisputed middleweight champion of the world ring any bells? every country hypes their fighters far too much.
