interesting development. I dont think its that uncommon for a man to temporarily become a monk. It will probably be only for a couple weeks but then you never know. I believe samart was a monk for 2 years then he came back to muay thai and looked better than ever. Whatever happens I wish Buakaw well.
Yep, not too surprised by this. It's a common right of passage for Thai males to ordain as a Monk at some stage in their life for anything from as little as week or for life. (or even multiple lives ). The king of Thailand ordained when he was young for I think 6 weeeks. As Flea mentions he's safe there and he is also away form the media (keeping his mouth shut while lawyers sort things out) and now is as good a time as any for a bit of clarity.
It seems Buakaw is ****ed... on sherdog their saying he came out of monkhood and now today has come to a agreement with his former camp where he is forced to have a 60/40 money split deal with por pramuk and has to keep por Pramuk name for the next 5 years. http://www.sherdog.net/forums/f42/buakaw-leaving-monkhood-2095693/ here is the reference link its all in thai: http://www.pantip.com/cafe/supachalasai/topic/S12130230/S12130230.html Boran say it aint so.
I'm afraid it looks that way. I'll confirm tommorrow, the main stream Thai newspapers will probabaly have something on it. When you look at it without emotion and objectively, I think realistically this was only gonna finish this way. Too much at stake cos if Buakaw had won, it would have set a massive precident for all Thailand's fighters to question the whole idea of contracts and the traditional 50-50 split. It could've changed the Thai MT world forever, better for the boxers but maybe wouldn't have been so good for the fans or gamblers utlimatley. Who knows? It's a real shame for Thailand's army of underpaid, voiceless brave fighters cos if Thailand's most famous boxer over the last 10 years with his huge international profile can't take on the shady MT establishment which fighter can or could have? I fear things'll never change.:-(
there it is http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/sports/294633/buakaw-camp-end-conflict-with-new-deal it seems Buakaw is stuck with por pramuk for the remainder of his career.
:-( Oh, well, least he hasn't been killed Let's hope he doesn't have to fight too often. 60/40 is bad but not horrendous. No doubt he'll receive far less than that at the end of it though.... Poor *******. Was hoping for some ONE FC can crushing :yep
Bangkok post reads as if this is a good deal for Buakaw. Makes you wonder what a bad deal would be? Think about this Buakaw doesnt train at por Pramuk any longer, but still has to get their permission to fight. Must keep the por Pramuk name. Buakaw gives por Pramuk gym 40% of his fight purse, and 25% of all money Buakaw receives from sponsorships, tv appearances and seminars. Basically any money Buakaw earns they get a piece of it, for the next 5 years. which is realistically the rest of his fighting career. Here is a picture from the Bangkok post of Buakaw apologising to Pramuk Rojanatan. This content is protected I really hope Rojanatan accepted and forgave Buakaw. What a great man.
:-( Terrible. This part of the Thai fight business really gets to me. Thai people are generally lovely, and the fighters strike me as real Thai's and not the bigwigs pullin the strings. Poor Buakaw.
Hold your horses fellas, IMO that's a good ground breaking deal for Buakaw. He's basically won his freedom. The SAT has finally realised what a National treasure Buakaw is and have bullied Por Pramuk on behalf of Buakaw into backing down and losing face big time in fornt of not only the Thai media but the world's fight media. I've never ever heard of a Thai getting 60% of his fee and large % of other earnings, that's pretty big and has most importanly set a precedent for all the other "owned" fighters in Thailand, one giant can of worms has possibly just been opened. It may not filter down immediately but over time things will maybe start to change. Another good thing IMO for Buakaw is that he can train in his own new Banchamek gym, away from the bad vibes of Por Pramuk. The truth is he's proabaly finished as a serious fighter, but he can still spend the next 3-4 years doing some good K1 or international fights earning more than he has ever earnt in what will be arguable his biggest paydays with the media running a magnifying glass on how the money is cut up. i can also see a possible flood of yug Thais wanting to train with him in his new gym, potential future champs. I'd say things'could have been alot worse, if he'd lost in court and been sued for 100 million.:adminThat really would be a life time of enslavement to Por Pramuk to pay that lot off. He'd be going till he was into his 60s. The most importnat thing is a great voiceless underdog of a Thai warrior took on the powerful corrupt MT establishment and came out with a better deal than he had before and more friends to boot!! If I was a boxer in Thailand I'd put a little picture of him next to the buddha shrine in the gym and pay my respects. He's a modern day Thai hero. Nai Kannom Tom V.2.0
thats a very positive spin your placing on a financial shafting. If your judging this in small steps than it was a small improvement from what buakaw had before in some ways. But what about money owed to him, by Rojanatan? Will Buakaw ever receive money he claims is owed to him? Buakaw deserves a lot more than this.
I agree with you Yaca he deserves alot more, so does every fighter in Thailand, but we have to be realistic. This is a ground breaking deal in a very very traditional country where boxer's are akin to cattle on a meat market and have 0% power, don't underestimate the deal. Por Pramok were never going to lose this, never. But he was made to eat **** publicaly which is major. I'm just surprised it came to a conclusion so quick, usually high profile cases in Thailand go on for years, this is testement to the SAT pulling for Buakaw. The behind the scenes stuff between SAT and probably a giant host of important complaining gym owners and promoters who run MT was proabaly bloody. You have to remember Por Pramuk was made to give in, that's like the dog telling the dog owner to get of the couch so the dog can sit down, outrageous to the mindset of the gym owners. Just think if Por Pramuk hadn't been leaned on and it had gone to Thailand's corrupt untransparent courts and Buakaw had lost.......:scaredas: The most important thing is this has set a precedent and he's got something out of it including some say no matter how small. He's shown things can change, it's a toe in the door for future generations of fighters. Look at the attitude they are up against in this interview with Nattadet Wachiraratanawong a so called progreessive and fair gym owner, particulalry when he starts to talk about costs to the camp: http://www.mymuaythai.com/archives/nattadet-wachiraratanawong/
Buakaw has retired. taken from Banchamek Gym facebook page: Hopefully this is not the end. If it is, Buakaw you have given us great fights, good luck in whatever you choose to do.
Nice move Buakaw, total freedom form those horrible *******s!!! Those greedy *******s at Por Pramuk killed the golden goose. They couldn't swallow he'd won against them, so they were going to get there pound of flesh whatever happened. If after everything they still wanted blood why give it to them anymore?! They don't deserve it the greedy ****ers. He walks with his intergrity intact. :yep Let's face it we all knew he was near the end and he stated himself in the intereview on Thai TV a few months ago that he had wanted to stop since 2009. Can't be too surprised what really is there possible or left for him to say or do in the ring after almost after 22 years? He'll enjoy life outside the ring and doubt he'll miss life in the ring, it's tough. His legacy is complete, up there as one of Thailand's ATGs. My guess is we'll see alot of him on Thai TV, Thai movies, seminars in Europe, America, and Japan. back in Thailand he'll train fighters and as the post said many forigen students will keep the gym ticking over. The future looks bright for the great white lotus!!
Buakaw is no longer fighting under the Thai Fight promotional banner. He wwent AWOL a wekk or so before yesterdays Thai Fight fight night and is now being sued for 100 million baht by the Thai Fight group!!!:-( His head hasn't been in it for a while now, he seems to be stuggaling with his new foundfame in Thailand,he'son everything from beer cansto Airplanes to Thai business investment advertising. Yodsanklai hassigned to the Thai Fight.
