No it isnt. I have heard that Jones wanted 10 mil when he was only getting around 2 mil a fight at that time. Thats the crown jewels.
Hopkins was offered 3 mil then asked for 6. Thats the crown jewels, oh and then Hopkins fought for less of half of the first offer.

Saying he wants to be well paid for a fight, so what. Jones wanted 10 mil ie the crown jewels, but you are just looking at something in a book which also reads

" I was one of his biggest fans but you have to question why his performance levels completely dipped from the moment it transpired a few years ago that he had failed a drugs test in a fight in Indiana against another american, Richard Hall. All of a sudden, he fell from the premiership to league 2, from being absolutely peerless, to distinctly average "

" If I had of fought Jones at his peak and got beaten, I would feel swindled today, knowing that he had taken steroids. Its cheating, theres no other word for it, and I don't know how it managed to be swept under the carpet for a number of years and he went totally unpunished "

" If steroids can make athletes run faster, they can surely help a boxer to hit harder and to hit faster and to hit quicker and to hit for longer and this will help him to inflict more punishment, which I think is repulsive"

You are looking at something written in a book where you havent seen video evidence of him saying that or the rest of the quote.
Here is actual video evidence saying otherwise

6:45 in. "For 2 years Calzaghe has chased pound for pound number one Roy Jones, but to no avail".

Then look at Jones own comments

Former four-division champion Roy Jones Jr, speaking with The Sunday Times, responded to Joe Calzaghe's recent claim of chasing Jones for several years and being brushed aside. Calzaghe spoke with The Sunday Mirror and appeared to have some newfound hostility when Jones' name came up.

," said Calzaghe. "Suddenly, I beat Hopkins in Vegas and Jones wants to be my neighbor - it's ridiculous. If a fight with Jones made sense from a cash point of view, then it could happen, but he is notorious for asking for too much money."

Jones says that he viewed Calzaghe as a possible opponent several years ago, but at the time he saw no reason to travel to Wales to chase the fight. Now that Calzaghe is the bigger star, Jones is willing to make the fight anywhere.

”You don’t go to somebody else when you’re the best, they must come to you, so I wouldn’t take the risk, and why would I? Why would I meet that challenge when I’m already the best? Why would I go to your country and give you a chance to allow the powers that be to take a close decision and give it to you?"

Jones says a fight with Calzaghe is the best fight in boxing, even better than a possible rematch between Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather Jr, scheduled for September.

“But right now this is the best fight out there, better than the Oscar De La Hoya-Floyd Mayweather rematch because we all know what the outcome of that fight is going to be – another win for Floyd. You don’t know the outcome of this fight, however, so it’s a fight people are going to want to see. There’s suspense, and that’s what makes for a big fight," Jones says.

    And then look

Sorry to keep this up, but you are the one that is missing something here. When Calzaghe said "crown jewels" he might have meant that he wanted a fair split of the revenue. Not only the ten dollors and the free autograph that Jones normally offered his opponents as payment.

Thanks. At this point we have ****** assuring that he tried to get it on with Jones long time ago, and that Jones prized himself out. ****** might be telling the truth, but we cant know for sure. Neither do we know if ****** was flexible considering where the fight should take place.

I will give you this much: it seems like there actually were negotiatons while Jones were prime. But there is no telling who made unreasonable demands and therefor we cant say that either fighter "ducked".

"I could probably give Jones a tough fight, probably the best fight he's ever had," said Calzaghe. "But I know my capabilities and unless I got paid the crown jewels I wouldn't want to risk it."

    There's honesty for you.

Again [/thread] That is pretty definitive. It is not the only time he said it. There is a live interview on youtube also.

Yeah, Calzaghe wanted a shitload of money to fight Jones. I get it. But top fighters taking on other top fighters always have that demand.

Who actually cares about that....if anybody was interested, the fight would have been made..............................

Bottom line : Calzaghe vs. Lacy, Hopkins and Jones = 3-0...................

Probably mid rounds stoppage for Jones. The old Roy dropped Calzaghe by slapping him with his wrist. Prime 168 pound Jones Jr, would devastate the Welshman. To fast, to much power. He would wipe his arse with Slappy Joe.

Just a friendly reminder to those claiming prime Jones stops early him due to when they actually fought, Calzaghe was passed his prime too. Just cause he got put on the canvas when they fought does not mean the same if they were to happen. Calzaghe is far better than most people that went UD's with Roy though styles makes fight. One things for sure is Calzaghe would come to fight unlike the many paycheck seekers Roy fought. Roy was not this vicious ko artist people make him out to be or almost if not all the paycheck seekers he fought would be taken out. I think people are taking Griffin-Jones II too seriously lol, and this is from a Roy fan.

Jones is one of the best of all time- here's how I have it-

    Ali
    Tyson
    Roy
    Lenerd
    Floyd

since Roys been losin lately and the ovas r retired i think Floyd still has a chance to pass up Roy.

So you think because something happend in one fight the same thing would happen every time? Calzaghe was up and throwing punches and not having to hold.
Consider that A Mundine went the full 12 with big SMW punchers in Echoles, Kessler, Siaca and D Green but was KOd by Ottke.
You saw what happend when a shot Calzaghe fighting at a weight he had only had one fight at did to Jones when got up, if you look at it your way.

If only Del Valle had of been a bit closer to his prime before he lost to Hill because if a past best Del Valle can put Jones on his arse a prime Del Valle would have kept him there :patsch.
    Completely ridiculous

    Correct.
Truth is Jones was at HW before Calzaghe even fought B Mitchell and they were fighting in different divisions.
I doubt anyone thinks Pirog, Trout, Chavez or Martinez are avoiding Bute

Roy had one fight at heavy. he was only up there 6 months. They were always a weight division apart though, because Joe would never move up to 175. He expected Roy to come down to 168 aswell as expecting the crown jewels. He was dreaming!
