Extremely overrated. I see nothing special about the dude, and he's old . Everybody's been hyping him up because of the Paul Williams flash KO , but he hasn't done anything besides that. He beat a washed up Pavlik, that's all. He's a basic, B-level southpaw nothing more.
The bottom line is he could give any fighter around his weight a problematic fight, his style will give anybody fits, that's why his p4p ranking is fully justified. No matter who gets in there with him, it isn't going to be an easy fight, to beat him you will have to be very patient, disciplined and in great shape.
I mean we have to go down deep to that opinion and statement since he is now world top ranked and p4p one of the best. If you mean like a Middleweight Champion, I agree with, b'cause he fought a very smart fight stealing rounds from Kelly who was again motivated to let his hands go and did so by round 5 and he actually was on his way back knocking outa balance Martinez but then Segio "Maravilla" just was very committed and lucky I guess to have Kelly cut, bloody and not having any kind of output in the Championship rounds. Ever since, he has been remarbly respected for his PW rematch Kayo and he has done well enough at MW but if you ask me if he is made from the same cloth like other ATG MW Champs have been, absolutely not. He has no amateur background, his footwork is natural and based on his soccer playing past and his boxing skills have improved through experience and fast adjustement/learning to/from his opponents.
Marquez tapped that ass 3 times already, and should rightfully be a 3 or 4 weight world champion thats what
Stfu *******.Go help your hero come up with more excuses as to why he underperformed against marquez.
Very Over Rated... For Beating Williams, and The Drunk Guy they ranked him P4P Top 5.. IDK not even HOF bound. Mayweather Pacquiao Marquez Donaire I'm not sure where Martinez rank P4P, but definitely not 5.
VERY VERY overrated. i been saying this the longest but the posters that have a crush on him get mad when i say it. he has done nothing to be ranked ahead of Ward or Donaire. his claim to fame was KOing Williams. ok, thats a good win, but #3 P4P worthy? nah. and i cant believe he is STILL at #3 especially seeing his last 3 Euro level fighters hes been fighting lately. plus he struggles a bit with them. now this dude is desperately trying to call out fighters 2 divisions below him? but when Andre Ward wanted a piece of him(only 1 division above him) he gets cold feet and doesnt want any parts of him. isnt that what great fighters are supposed to do? move up and prove yourself? i find it hilarious how him and his fans try to claim hes a "natural Jr. Middleweight" knowing damn well he has weighed in @ 170+ on fight night. his fans are OK with him fighting floyd but not ward? but like i said, he is very overrated. i think they keep him in that slot strickly in hopes of him fighting Manny or Floyd.
but wait, did you not say in an earlier thread that he, along with ward, rigo and gamboa, have proven their greatness, and that's why they're ranked so highly? that contradicts this most recent statement.
Overrated hell no. Not when the p4p #1 going life and death winning a controversial decision most think he lost vs a 38 yr old LIGHTWEIGHT. If anything the jr middleweight who's now middleweight king and now the most feared at 37 is underrated. The fighter everyone feared from 147-160 he destroyed and is STILL recuperating from that blast. The Williams Lara fought was **** compared to the freak Sergio beat. People always remembering how Quintana schooled and supposedly exposed him, but then if he did expose him why'd he get ko'd in 1 round? Haterz always seem to forget that, nawadamsayin?
Nope, he is top 4 right now and anyone you put above him (bar Pac & Floyd) could be called "overrated" too.
I agree #3 P4P is a bit much. But did you forget that Martinez started fighting at 147? So he's fighting guys naturaly bigger than him at 160. Some credit has to be given. As far as him calling out smaller guys, it's more about him calling out guys that can secure a nice retirement pay. Sergio is 37 and is ready to call it a career that's why he would like a fight with Money Mayweather, who would bring way more $ to the table than Ward. That's all that's about. Segio has never weighed in at 160 so as far as him weighing in at 170+ don't know, It's very possible though. Have they posted any fightnight weights for his last couple of fights?
LOL at the guy who says Sexy Sergio is not deserving of his spot in boxing, then goes on to reference the greatness of JULIO CESAR CHAVEZ JR. Oh the iraneez.
