No Loudon. Jones said he would come down, and Calzaghe said he was happy to go up. You make these comments and I give you links and you still then come up with something different.
Yes Calzaghe wanted to be well paid if he had that fight, and why not? But Roy priced himself out and fought lesser fighters for less and said he didnt want to fight Calzaghe.
As said Joe moving up to LHW to get a fight with someone who wont fight him would be pointless as he was carving his legacy where he won his world title.
You note Collins, and Jones didnt fight him, yet Calzaghe agreed to. Someone pointed out Eubank and Jones wouldnt fight him, yet Calzaghe agreed to. Then you make excuses for Roy because an offer was put to Roy and he didnt take it because Calzaghe was at SMW and would only go up for that fight, yet you make excuses for Jones when O Grant who fights at MW, Jones fought in a fight where he would have made less than fighting Calzaghe

It was called sarcasm Loudon. I would have thought you would have got it, when you look at the rest of what I had written. The point I was making was just because a fighter gets knocked down in one fight doesnt mean it would happen every time. Im surprised when I wrote completely ridiculous you wouldnt have realised it was sarcasm

Joe wasn't willing to go up to 175. He wanted Roy at 168. So Roy said ok but I want x amount. Joe thought that it was too much. But you blame Roy for the fight not coming off. But if Joe had've accepted the offer, they would have fought. Roy did not say "I don't want to fight him." He said "I'll fight him for x amount." There is a world of difference between those two comments. Do you not understand that Joe actually had a choice? He could have agreed to Roy's offer. Who was Joe in 2002, to be demanding the crown jewels? He had one belt in a weak division and was relatively unknown outside of Europe.

Otis grant was happy with the split, and he was happy to go from 160 upto Roy's 175 division. The videos are a joke! He chased him for 6 years by fighting SMW's in England, Wales, Germany and Denmark. Ha! And then when had the opportunity to fight him, he said no because he wasn't happy with the split! Did he seriously expect to get a 50/50 split at the time? He was deluded. Stop saying Roy priced himself out, when Joe could have agreed. There's always two sides to each story. You don't seem to have any perspective, but you're a good poster and I've enjoyed debating with you.

He says he was happy to go up and fight in America but he didn't did he?

Roy priced himself out in yours and Joe's opinion. But he cut off his nose to spite his face, he missed the opportunity to fight the worlds best fighter.

what offer? I'm saying he could have accepted Roy's terms.

X amount is just an example. We don't know what the exact figures are do we? But whatever it was, Joe wasn't happy with it. Obviously we're both speculating what joe classed as the crown jewels. But I would imagine he was talking about millions, such as a 50/50 split. Roy didn't say he didn't want to know. He said what he'd have wanted for the fight.

Again when I say offer, I mean Joe could have accepted Roy's demands. It was Joe's choice.

Woods and Kelly weren't well known, but they were light heavies. Joe didn't want to go up to light heavy at the time. Woods was a mandotary I believe.

In 2002, yes Joe was a World champ. He was a great fighter. But outside of Europe he was relatively unknown. The U.S. fans had only seen him a handful of times. Therefor it was Roy's name that would be selling the fight, so Joe was in no position to be wanting the crown jewels. It was obvious that Roy would want a huge amount of money, especially if he'd have had to have come down in weight.

What do you mean Calzaghe hasn't said he was unhappy with the split? He must have been unhappy, because the fight never got signed, on the basis of joe saying he wasn't getting paid enough, and roy in his opinion priced himself out. It's my assumption based on what we know and the fight not coming off.

    Regards.

The only way that fight would of happened is if Calzaghe went to America. The offer was on the table from 99 and Calzaghe looked the other way.

1:Jones did not want to fight abroad
2:HBO had no interest in the fight because Calzaghe was unknown and they would of likely lost money on the fight (all of Calzaghe's fights on HBO were rating flops, so back around 2000-2002 they would of been even worse)
3:Waren is lying about the amount of money he offered Jones as well
Jones back then was getting around 2.2m per fight, Waren would not have offered him much more than that

nt really sure why anyone is arguing.

peak RJJ was able to win and defend major SMW, LH titles and take a HW title.

peak Calzaghe was able to defend a minor SMW title.

There is an obvious class difference. This is like trying to compare Barry McGuigan with Manny Pacquiao. Jones would outclass and showup a bullish Calzaghe.

He fought Grant so he could gain experience fighting southpaws. The only southy Jones had fought at that point was Byrd (back at smw) in a fight which lasted under 1 round. In order to unify the belts he needed to fight southys (De Valle, Johnson). The Grant fight was just a safe tune up fight. He struggled with De Valle but his strategy for fighting southys was set by the time he fought Johnson and Hall

    I agree
Jones was class A, while Calzaghe was around B to B+

RJJ by domination. Wide UD or late stoppage.

Calzaghe is on record lying about a number of things. Are we really supposed to believe he had three legit reasons for pulling out of the Glen Johnson fight? He also faked a injury to try and get out of fighting Lacy. On top of all that you have the whole Pavlik fiasco.

You don't miss Liles, Tarver, Pavlik, Dawson, Jones(prime), Darius M, R.Johnson and Glen Johnson if you are looking for top opponents.

Calzaghe pulled out 3 times against O Sheika but look what happend when he fought him.

Calzaghe had to fight the winner of Johnson/Sheika and Johnson lost. Calzaghe was ringside with a view to fighting Johnson if he beat Woods and guess what, Johnson lost. I doubt Calzaghe was worried about a SMW journeyman.

They would have fought in 2004 if Johnson had waited instead of fighting Jones. Johnson told Dan Goosen to forget about Joe. Yet he came running back to Calzaghe when Joe became a superstar after whooping Lacy.

    BBC Tuesday, 8 June, 2004

But Johnson is adamant Calzaghe has lost his chance, saying: "The fight is off. I'm not interested in fighting Joe Calzaghe any more.Johnson refused to wait for the fight to be rescheduled on 04,fact.

Calzaghe agreed to fight Johnson in September 06 on the condition that Johnson beat Woods in their 3rd fight. However Johnson lost and missed his chance. Calzaghe was ringside for this fight - some scared ducker hey. Why do people leave out this information when discussing this issue?

and I have a hard time believing Calzaghe would duck an old journeyman like Johnson to fight a younger, much more dangerous Mikkel Kessler!!! and yes Calzaghe WAS injury prone. he was notorious for hand problems.....Many of his fights including Lacy had to be rescheduled. He still ended up fighting them. He wanted to reschedule the Johnson fight but like i saidJ ohnson said he was "done" with Calzaghe.

everybody was beating johnson before he popped up on the hbo screen and knockout that over hyped HBO fighter jones jr

also not once throughout calzaghes reign was johnson ranked in the ringmag top 10!!
