Done Deal : Canelo Alvarez vs. Paul Williams, Sept. 15th, Las Vegas.

Paul isn't going into a fight as a one-sided punching bag. He's gonna be throwing some body shots of his own. And his ingame is better than anyone gives credit. despite his heaght and reach, that's where he's most effective.


The question is... Will Canelo be able to withstand the constant pressure in later rounds and be able to have enough left in the tank to be effective?

 

Paulie would've whooped up on him if he could fight like PW in 2008!

 

This is a great fight.

Williams is dangerous. Will not be surprised if he pulls off the win.

 

PW is gonna whip that boys ass. There should be an option on the poll that says "GBP Robbery"

 

Which is truly a shame, because if he hadn't been straight-up boycotted by everyone at 147 back then, he would have made a much better name for himself.


Sadly he was forced to move up two entire divisions... and you know what happened next.

Let's hope that we actually get to see a good fight come to fruition w/o some press conference no show or PED scandal causing an abrupt cancellation, for once.

I said two weeks ago in a thread that Williams could beat Canelo, that Canelo is not on the level of Martinez and Lara, and that he has never fought someone with the height, reach and punch volume of Williams. BUT, after the Lara fight, I really don't think Williams is 100% committed anymore. Even after the Martinez devastation, he still hung his head out front to get clobbered by the left cross. Canelo has some power, more than Lara, and if he's good at watching video and learning from it, he could stop Williams. Especially if he can get to the body on a regular basis, and early. Great match-up though. Props to whoever got it done.

 

Nice step up for the ginger one. Paul's damaged goods though. His chin is cracked, and he's become gun shy against big punchers. I don't see this ending well for him.
