Is my Old man. My dad is a great man, I just will always blame him for signing me up for sports like Football, Soccer and Basketball(all of which, I sucked at), instead of Amateur Boxing, now I'm just starting. But its hard with school.

My goal is to have at least one professional boxing match, and have my own wikipedia by the time I die. Just a rant. What are Your Reasons for Not Participating in Boxing?

Theres a 9 year old kid at my gym whose dad forces him to box. He literally cries in the ring everytime he spars. Doesnt like it at all, but his dad is there yelling at him to do it and filming it all.

Sad how hes trying to vicariously live through him.

sucks to do something u dont like. i hated playing baseball, my dad's passionate pastime, sucked at basketball. my dad was a great man, just too overprotective. he wouldnt even let me play football and i was a brute back then. u got to let a kid find his passion in life, whether its reading or hitting a baseball. u got to let them grow, not hold them back. i guess my old man just did the best he could for us. but, if i ever have kids one day, i would let them do what they want:deal

I have asthma and a sweat allergy. The medication I take prevents me from really exerting myself to my full potential. I box recreationally and have had a few amateur bouts but I know I could never seriously compete.

Man I started boxing when I was 25 years old! Way to old. I was drinking, smoking weed, and worked a 40 hour job. I wish I would of got into boxing when I was young. I done pretty good but my biggest problem was conditioning. I am 6"4 and around 240 (not in shape). Boxing at such an old age with weight issues is diffcult because the 17,18,19, 20, 21, and 22 year old boys never even been out of shape. Then when I really started to get into it, my job was forcing overtime on me and all a lot of stuff. I have excuses for days. I am now 32 and I have first child on the way and its a girl. I am really happy but don't think I want to put a lil girl in the ring.

But If i ever have a boy, I plan to trick him into liking boxing. Instead of MAKING him box like the gentleman above said, when he is like 2 years old, I will hit the heavy bag in front of him all the time but won't allow him to hit the bag. I will tell him he is too young and like in human nature, he will want to do what I won't allow him to do. Around 4 I will by him a kid's heavy bag and only let him hit it when I hit the adult bAG. A round 5 or 6 he will be ready to hit the gym!!!!!!!!!!

(Sometimes you have to trick a dog to teach him)

I started boxing at 11 years old. Had 70 amateur fights and 9 pro fights. Boxing is a brutal sport but it paid my way through college (with p/t and f/t jobs).

In hindsight I wish I hadnt have risked a brain injury.

Funny, I have a heavy bag and my grandson of two hit it for a while and the bad swung back and knocked him on his ass. I trained both my girls and my son at young ages, but they did not pick it up. My son just hits the bag. My grandson could be my only hope. If he is half the athlete of my daughter, he will be good. My daughter was the best in little league baseball with all boys. She played basket ball and boxed with boys and won. She hit 13 and forget about it.

Same here... Started at 24 and felt like grandpa in the gym. Little 8-10 year olds just going to town on the punching bag while I'm sitting there learning how to throw a basic 1-2. I'm 29 now and learned very fast due to me training on my own since I was about 20 so I already had good footwork, speed and some basic technique.

My biggest problem, like you said, the ****ing conditioning. And I'm a small dude. Weight 155 5'9 and pretty cut up. Now I look like I can go a full 15 rounds. But **** I'm hanging over the ropes at the end of round 3. And I'm a long distance runner. Would run 6 miles everyday when I was boxing, skip rope 10 three minute rounds with 30 second brakes but would look like a lethargic slug midway round 3. I never understood it. Boxing is truley a sport you have to start real young.

No lie, everyday I just wish, I wish sooo ****ing bad someone threw my ass in boxing when I was younger. But that's just not a popular sport that parents will just throw there kids in during the summer. I played boring ass baseball. If there was a gym down the road, I'm sure my parents would've put me in. Crazy cause I still train on my bag like I have a fight coming up. Always a good feeling knowing I can more than likely knock the punks out at the club if they start with me.

Exactly the same thoughts here. The money bought me a house and paid for uni fees, but now all I remember is the constant headaches etc. I would never let my child fight - training is fine. (I'd still a fight for 7 figures though...not that it'll ever happen now!).
