    That's strange :huh

Floyd v Hatton and Cotto isn't STRUGGLED but
Pac v Mosley, with 1 KD and 12-0 UD is STRUGGLED. Well, that's according to knowledgeable Floyd fans.

Nah Lew, Cotto was still being aggressive and coming forward. He may have covered up at times, but flush shots to the chin will do that. Mayweather definitely dominated the last few rounds, but it wasn't because Cotto was in survival mode.

Hatton forced Floyd to fight out of his comfort zone, at a much higher pace than he would normally have wanted, but he was getting beat up in order to do so

Floyd was essentially forced to fight Hattons fight because of the speed at which Hatton came in

Against Cotto, Floyd chose to fight Cotto's fight, and beat him at it

i'm not gonna get into argument with you over JMM/Pac except to say Harold's scoring criteria is what most reasoned scores use.

    The words perhaps yes

    Ring generalship
    Clean punching
    Effective aggresion

But he doesn't use them correctly

Fair enough man I might be being a bit harsh on Cotto (who I do have a lot of respect for) but I feel like if he'd tried to push for the KO as much as Hatton did he would have probably been stopped.

I would certainly agree with that.

PS- I also think Cotto thought he was reasonably close enough on the cards that he stood a chance to win.

fair enough...but 3 judges scored the fight...and it was not an easy fight to score...different people see different things i.e. JMM's counter punching and skill or Pac's aggression..

That's exactly what happened in the Cotto fight...more so than in the Hatton fight, actually. In the Hatton fight Floyd looked uncomfortable for many rounds, but he was still countering Hatton coming in from round one onwards, using pinpoint shots like the straight right and left-hook. Hatton never forced Floyd to up his workrate. Floyd only started unleashing combinations in round 8, when he felt that Hatton was ready to be taken out. In the Cotto fight Mayweather was throwing combinations from an early stage, and he was getting hit with much more flush punches.

He didn't fight Hatton's fight, though...he was hitting him with counterpunches as Hatton lunged in from the first round. That strategy broke Hatton down, bit by bit, until he was taken out. Hatton's footspeed and aggression made the fight interesting, but he wasn't particularly effective at forcing Mayweather to fight his fight at all.

Floyd didn't choose to make the fight hard for himself. He's not a dumb fighter -- he does everything possible to make fights easy, using every tool he has. Floyd was fighting Cotto in his normal style, but throwing more combinations because he needed to up his workrate to win rounds. (Although his legs aren't as good as they were when he fought Hatton, due to age, so it stands to reason that he'd be more flatfooted.)

I don't think he did make the fight harder for himself by fighting that fight, Cotto's attacks in the corner where where Mayweather had a lot of his best moments and best work came from Cotto's attacks in the corner
