It seems like his handlers are protecting him from something. I can't recall a touted heavyweight prospect in the 2000's that hasn't faced at least a few rough and tumble guys this far into their career. he should be at least fighting top 40 guys.
Maybe they are holding out til Klitschkos retire?? If he fought anybody remotely good he eventually might be touted as a potential opponent for one or both brothers
For what it's worth Wilder does have a couple of decent wins, but his LOC should be nothing less than Alexander and Sconiers. Beck woulda been a decent win 2 yrs ago as he wouldve likely held his own vs his conquerors if he wasn't complacent to take these fights on 5 days notice. At least team Wilder is giving him the heads up. Then again, should Beck actually be in camp when he's called, team Wilder is likely to pass on him:-(
If anyone is actually interested (I'm not sure even I am any longer) below are what I consider to be Wilder's three best fights. (As I've posted elsewhere.) I watch these, and I see a fighter with no real flaws, though of course there is absolutely no way to tell what a real opponent would do. trying to support Wilder is worse than trying to support Golota, back in the Riddick Bowe days. ANYWAY: ------------------------------------- ### Deontay Wilder vs. DeAndrey Abron - possibly his most impressive fight. vs Abron: Look at that speed: Power shots from both hands, with excellent precision, all from a safe distance. When he does get inside, he gets out again asap, and his balance is excellent. (most of the time) He also seems to know how to breathe in the ring. He's in no hurry. That's a pretty rare & important trait. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QxmuZMSF0Po[/ame] As a comparison, look at young RJJ vs sStackhouse http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=401644 - In some ways, Deontay is practically the same fighter. (yeah, I know, but you know what I mean.) ------------------- vs Kelsey Arnold he showed GREAT defense. Granted, Arnold was a bum, but Wilder reminds me of Mayweather here: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6epKuRJJpHI[/ame] Show me another HW, including Ali, who moves that fast. -------------- Again, look at his balance, speed, aggression & precision: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R485vQ4OgOo&feature=related[/ame] Are you kidding me? Yes, he DESPERATELY needs to fight better fighters, but I see no holes in his technique, other than sometimes being slightly off balance. (probably due to his spindly legs.)
Deontay Wilder wants to fight good opponents, its golden boys fault that he can not. He wants to fight in our Prizefighter but they won't let him.
This is how Deontay's career should have progressed. First 10 fights, learning experience. Deciding if they want him to fight like Lennox Lewis, Wladimir, Vitali Klitschko. Nobody of note here Next 5-7 should have been against guys of various degrees of difference, not necessarilly good guys, but guys who can do something like do a good shell defense, fight off the back foot, etc. Guys that can do somethning that Deontay will need to learn how to counteract. Damon Reed should be here Next 4-7, time to get serious. at this point he should be digging up the numbers of Nagy Aguilera, Fres Oquendo, Imbragimov, etc. Guys not at the top but good enough to turn people's heads. Next 4-7 should be against title contenders, He should face David Price, Tyson Fury, Chisora, etc. Next fight after that period, if he goes throughout this process undefeated, face him against a Klitschko or whomever is holding the belts at this time. If they did this he should be ready to roll.
Then have him refuse to hold and defend some regional belts. All that you learn by fighting bums is how to make mistakes. Look at what happened to Tyrone Brunson when he finally stepped it up, he looked like **** because none of his learned mistakes were actually working.
Look for him to fight J. McCline by the end of the year- I reckon he will be 26-0 or 27-0 with the best names being O. Beck and McCline.
if Beck is unavailable how about Brian London - ok, he aint fought since 1970 but is still in good shape for someone in his 70s........
