Not been to nottingham before but I am going up for this fight. a few mates of mine have advised me on a place called the approach on friar lane which is not too far from the arena, i belive they will have a build up party to the fight and also showing the england game.

Not sure about beer gardens but I will be requiring one also if anyone else can advise???

Boxalot posted this in the weigh-in thread ......

And to answer your question, there really isn't alot to see in Nottingham that you don't get anywhere else.

Alot of people from out of town enjoy going to Hooters (a bar/restaurant where the waitresses wear next to nothing and are generally very attractive) and it does come recommended.

Drinking venues depend on which type of thing you're in to. I'm pretty sure all the students have just had their last exams, so they will be out in full force this weekend which means plenty of fanny.

Due to the weather at the moment, i'd recommend a couple of beer gardens called The Waterfront and The Castle. The Waterfront is literally across the road from the train station and The Castle is a 5 minute walk from the square.

Decent restaurants include Tropeiro (Brazilian food and cocktail bar, located in Lace Market) and Peachy Keens (world buffet and bar) which is near the Gala Casino. Bars obviously depend on what you like. The Approach is a nice, classyish little place near the Square but is expensive by Nottingham standards. You always see Forest players in their with the wags and it's very relaxed. Horn In Hand, Pit And Pendulum, Vodka Revs etc are good for pre-fight drinking and if you fancy a post night out then it depends what you're looking for. Those with a student card simply have to go to Ocean which always promises off the scale looking students. It's grotty as **** and looks grim from the outside, but you'd go through 9/10 birds in there like a train. EQ, Gatecrasher, Rescue Rooms, Stealth, Rock City etc are a few other places that will be packed after the fight. Stealth is generally populated by pillheads and doesn't have a dress code, a bit of a laugh and where you want to go if you fancy a bag. Rock City is a bit emo-ish and EQ + Gatecrasher is where most people go to end a night. I'll be borrowing my mates student card to get in Ocean.

As mentioned Waterfront is quality, on the river and right next to the station.
There are a few other bars down there as well.

Nottingham isn't that big so the arena is only a 2 minute taxi journey.

If any of you lads are thinking of going to a club after the fight, just be aware that saturday nights in Nottingham are very hit and miss. It's full of the stag/hen do crowd. I see a lot of out of town lads who say they came to the city because they heard it was a 1:3 male/female ratio. They get a shock when they realise it's the opposite. You'll see what I mean when you head out to the bars.

As far as clubs go, the obvious choice-oceana, I personally would avoid. That's not to say you can't have a good night there but it's full of the locals/chavs/older people/stag and hen crowd. Usually plenty of dickheads in there and a cockfest. Also, because it's such a big club it can seem a bit empty at times.

Gatecrasher is similar but less chavy.

The forum has a better atmosphere because it's smaller so it seems a lot more packed, and it also has more of a younger student crowd.

Ocean is supposed to be the best night out, but you do need a student card, and I'm not sure if it's open on saturdays.

For those of you getting there early and going out on friday, forget about oceana/gatecrasher which are **** on fridays, and just go to rock city. It's always packed, and has a young student crowd that's just up for a good time. Rock city on saturdays is an emo/rock night though.

There are other clubs like stealth, cookie club, rescue rooms etc. If you do go to oceana just accept that it'll probably be a cockfest. That said, it could be different this weekend cuz of the students having just finished their exams.
