The American Dream came close to being a nightmare http://ringtv.craveonline.com/blog/173015-the-american-dream-came-close-to-being-a-nightmare
I've been wondering what became of him....another sad story of life after boxing for some. Al Mitchell a man among men. Excellent post (as usual from OP).
Man, I dont know why but I always had a soft spot for this dude. Seeing him get beat pretty bad by a part time boxer, full time cop on espn had me depressed for a few days. I hope things end up well for him
I met him at the Wisconsin Golden Gloves tournament. My brother took me to him to talk to him and he was a nice guy. This was 2 years ago by the way. He was totally great when he met me, he shook my hand and asked me if I was enjoying myself at the fights. It was a hard pill to swallow for me however, his voice was badly slurred and you can tell that the sport took a very very huge part out of his body. Thats what happens when evil promoters tell a young boxer that they have to cash out against an ATG power puncher in Felix Trinidad. A damn shame.
Your story suggests his reclusiveness isn't has bad as what's told here. It's a shame he got pushed so fast. Good luck to him.
