for those who watch or pay for them?

Or is it like a job that if I can make the work easy (just win rounds) why the hell would i bust myself up. The job is all about winning. It does not matter if it is not exciting or boring as long as I win for my fans. This is what matters.

    Do you agree?

I certainly don't. Boxers work for the - the man. Just like any job you have to make your boss (the fans) satisfied with your work or else you're fired (fans won't watch or pay for your fights).

Their aim is to win. Doesn't matter if they win ugly or not.

The more exciting you are the more money you make, as long as you keep winning at the elite level.

in a way, yes...people are paying to see them therefore i think fights should be exciting. But at the same time, if you know the craft, i think you can apply it in a way that will keep the crowd interested and on its toes while at the same time keeping you as safe as possible.

From a sports perspective I agree with you 100%. But these days getting bums on seats has as much to do with entertainment as anything else.

I say yes, it is a prize fight. Pro boxing is a money game, the sport is at the amateur level.

There are different types of boxers in this sport. Boxers who love to entertain people will come to fight and boxers who don't care about their fans will come to win.

No, but you obviously increase your earning potential if you're an exciting fighter. The number one goal is to win, but you should try to be exciting as you can. It's a delicate balance.

Ask Abril what happens when you come to win rounds and leave it in the judges hands instead of coming to finish the fight.

The fans have the option to not pay to see a certain fighter perform. Don't like a certain individual? Simply don't watch him. If you're coaching a fighter, sure, it's nice to encourage him to become an action fighter. But that's as far as it goes. What he does with his career is entirely up to him. Guys like Dawson, Hopkins, Wright, etc. will never become big PPV stars which is why Mayweather is a genius when it comes to marketing. It's possible to be successful without pleasing the fans, if that makes any sense. But you'd need to bring something special to the table.

Oh, and you won't necessarily be fired. You'd just end up like Chris John. But hey, if that's good enough of a career for you then so be it.

Of course not. Boxing should be a sport first, it's all about winning or losing. In this day and age, and with the way boxing has been running, one could argue that it isn't a sport anymore. But, no, boxing is/should still be a sport first. This isn't the WWE or a movie where you want to be entertained. That's why it grinds my gears a bit when people **** on Ward-Dawson or shitted on Dawson-Hopkins II. Why? Yeah, sure they aren't/weren't the most exciting fights to be made, but they are the fighters in their weight class. These type of fights should be made. The best fight the best, and sometimes they'll be entertaining, sometimes they won't be. Just like any other sport. Every Super Bowl isn't going to be great, every World Series isn't going to be great, etc. You'll get those snoozefests, but that's going to happen because they are sports first and entertainment is secondary.

If he doesn't come to fight then he shouldn't be in the ring. Pot shotting for points is bogus at this level.
