    Women are murder.

Given Glenn's recored at 168, you'd have thought joe would have loved to fight him surely?

Demonstrably not.....I don't know if it was lack of confidence or just wanting to stay in his comfort zone, he had the talent

He beat Sheika after Sheika beat Johnson.

Glenn was no good at 168.

It just so happened the fight was muted as Joe was having personal problems.

    Protected, yeah.

    Avoiding Johnson, nope.

    You already know that though.

    Night :thumbsup

Thanks for the trip down memory lane, BUT it is what it is, Calzaghe was meant to destroy the 'old guard' in Chris Eubank, and instead like I said before was taken to 'hell & back' by the old campaigner.

IMO? Looking back on Joes career Chris Eubank exposed him. I have no axe to grind with Calzaghe, but the fact he toiled against an old weight drained Eubank? Its proof that Froch would have had a chance, even without the handspeed.

Eubank? slow but awkward. hard as nails. big power. heart of a lion. Froch? slow but awkward. hard as nails. big power. heart of a lion.

I saw a guy earlier in the thread say I should play backgammon, as cos I dont post much anymore obviously my boxing brain has diminished. All I can say is this, when you have been watching boxing like I have for decades? It gets easier to predict the older you get.

It would be similar to Calzaghe VS Kessler, Froch might get some success when he makes it inside but Calzaghe always adapts his tactics perfectly to come on strong in the later rounds. It would be something like 8-4 in terms of rounds.

I thought JC was a bit disrespectfull last night, looked a bit smug. Only bloke i can think in his prime was kessler, great great win, lacy, to b honest was nothing special,as as been proved, JC had some extreamly hard nights against big strong fighters, think
he would hVe a hard night, close fight, hard to pick

Eubank was a far better fighter than froch, and that's no disrespect to Carl.

I was a big Eubank fan but can't see how he exposed Calzaghe. Eubank just showed what a tough and outstanding fighter he was when he really put his mind to it. Even in his 'prime' he would let the showboating distract him and after Watson everyone knows he wasn't the same. A pre-Watson Eubank finishes Collins when he had the chance for instance. Collins would not have lasted against Calzaghe if he had taken that fight like he was supposed to instead of Eubank, which showed Collins was smart to get out when the money didn't justify the risk. Eubank only returned to that old warrior instinct towards the end of his career when it could be said he was making something of a 'comeback', and was taking the Cazlaghe fight with an air of desperation. Not saying it was a prime Eubank against JC, but it was a very dangerous and, to a large extent, a re-focused Eubank who was still teak tough.

I thought that to, I like Calzaghe but I didnt like how he came across last night.

I do think he would have beat Froch but it would be no pushover, If Froch used his long jab well Im sure he could have muscled his way in and if Calzaghe traded with him, im not sure who would have come better off, I think it would have been a great fight and closer than some have mentioned.

I think if we look at the common opponent in Kessler which i think both guys fought at round about their prime then you get your answer.
Calzaghe does have the massive advantage of boxing at home but the fight shows it was close and hard but Calzaghe was able to adapt and win by if i remember my card at the time 2-3 rounds.
Froch was not able to adapt and again i had him losing my 2-3 rounds in a close hard fight.
Now do not get me wrong it was close and if Froch was boxing at home he might have squeaked a draw or a majority decision.
As for there other best performances Calazghe's was Lacy and Froch's was Abraham.
I think Joe against Lacy is the best performance in a world title fight that i can remember. Lots of people fancied Lacy in the fights and I think Lacy's subsequent career had taken something away from what Joe achieved that night. but remember how good Lacy had been before the Cazaghe fight. I honestly think Joe Broke him that night and that is why his career went the way it did.
Froch with Abraham was Calzaghe Lacy light. Similar in style but just not as devastating. I also believe the pre Calzaghe Lacy would of beaten Abraham.
What Joe lacks is enough big fights which can not be said about Froch.
****** protected Calzaghe for far to long and I also believe Joe suffered from boxing in an era when there where other fighters in a nd around his weight who where also content to stay at home and defend. In my opinion Joe would of destroyed Sven Ottke and would of given Hopkins in his prime real problems in what would of been a 50/50 fight. I don't think he beats a prime Roy Jones. I also think Jow would give Ward all sorts of problems in another 50/50 fight which may well of come down to where the fight was staged. Remember Ward does not exactly like to travel either. Also you have to take Joe hands into account. I think he would of been much more vicious if not for the hand problems and in the Lacy fight seriously dangerous to Lacy's health.
That being said I love Froch's attitude with big fight after big fight and the I'll fight anyone mentality. Boxing would be a much better sport if we had more boxers with that attitude.

Prime for prime it's hard to say.

In real life when carl was chasing the fight, I too would have laughed at the thought of him winning.

i would give prime calz a shot against ward, prime froch i gave no chance to and he wasnt even in the fight. so prime for prime its not even close.
