I'm not a huge fan of trainers who have never boxed, I know there have been some good examples but I just don't think you can understand the game fully if you have never been punch in the mouth, would you let somebody teach you how to drive if they couldn't drive themselves? I certainly wouldn't because driving is dangerous just like boxing and if somebodys teaching and looking after me I need to know they know what they are talking about, I don't mean to cause any offence this is just my thoughts on the subject, but to contradict myself I always like listening to dean powell in the corner he knows what he's talking about so what do I know
Curtis not all good football players make good managers either!! Just because you can box doesn't mean you could teach someone to do it. You might be able to tell then how you done done it but you might just not have the right head on your shoulders to actual teach them.
thanks for your input guys just because iv never boxed doesnt mean i cany i train alongside the lads every day i even spar with some of our lads (been training 10 years and im still only 27 yrs old) its just something iv never had the dedication (mainly to likeing the odd pint and burger) to do properly, and one thing i tell the lads is this is definatly a sport you have to do properly not 80 or 90%, and i know the sport inside out im a student of the sport and will keep learning
They're will be none of them about because you have got to pass a really tricky DRIVING test to become a driving instructor and its expensive aswell!!
Where did you get that from? My understanding was he joined the fitzroy lodge as a nutritionist / conditioner and just struck up a good friendship with haye. My old trainer was at the lodge then, and I don't ever recall him saying any different. I may be wrong so tell me who did he box if it was a good level?
I'm not sure about the level he boxed at but he did box, I had him added on Facebook and he had old pictures on there of him as a boxer.
He said he fought amateur when Jim "you can't be a good trainer if you've never boxed" mcdonnell questioned him. Oh yeah mcdonnell lost that one.
Thanks, I did wonder as he's throwing punches in the past like his demo of the "the blender" we're quite fluid for someone that had never boxed Me is hedumecated now. Either way for someone with limited amateur experience I'd still put him above McDonnell and he had world title aspirations. Maybe not having boxed as a trainer would help as you wouldn't place your own limitations on your charge -but then not having taken a punch square on the nose may leave some with a lack of appreciation of what a fighter goes through.
