Great fighters with bad trainers and vice versa

    What are some examples of great trainers with fighters who just couldn't hack it at top level as well as fighters who were held back by trainers who weren't on their level?

    Pavlik was my first guess when making the thread. Although atlas may have help povetkin by getting him the belt and keeping it getting pay days and not getting sparked by Wlad

    Wladimir Klitschko is not a great fighter. And Sdunek is not bad trainer. So it´s wrong here.

    I might cop flak for this but mayweather and uncle roger...

    May is superbly gifted but i dont feel roger is a good
    Trainer but i think the only thin he has goin for him
    Is the chemistry he has with floyd because they are related and have been close for a long long time.

    Paul Williams comes to mind. After he got knocked out by Martinez, his trainer said that Williams doesn't need to change anything, which convinced me that his trainer is ****ing terrible. If P Will had a trainer that was remotely good, he would have been still highly avoided.

    Roger is an average trainer. I always thought that Floyd Sr. is way better than him but to defend Roger a bit, he has no choice but to tell Floyd what to do in general in between rounds because Floyd's ring IQ is so high. Not any specific instructions other than, "Keep whipping his ass!" or "Box him! You'll beat him easy!" :yep

    Great boxer, yes. But not a great fighter. He´s avoiding any kind of fight with his very effective outside style. As soon as one is going inside to make it a fight, he´s grabbing and holding, absolutely no inside game. So there is no real fight. And that´s why imo he is not a great fighter.

    i didnt exactly agree with how mcgirt had paulie fighting. not that paulie is an atg but mcgirt seemed to limit him

    How about Gerald McClellan? Obviously not whilst he had Steward taking him to the top, but when he had Johnson in the corner for the Benn fight.

    If that ****er had any sort of clue or hadnt have been so keen on being in the limelight himself he might have pulled his man out, and we would be looking at a very different history of the division
