Robinson never fought a great counter puncher with some of the best defense ever either.he never fought anyone as smart as floyd, someone who can adapt mid round and adjust
I am not as impressed with SRR as many other may be. Personally, though, I think Floyd finds it a rough going in there. I don't think it's as impoosible as some are suggesting, because he definitely has a shot. But dominate? I seriously doubt it. In my very biased opinion, Hearns would be my H2H #1 at 147-154. Yeah I know he lost to Leonard, but I think still, he was better from 147-154 overall. And I think he would do better against Floyd, SRR, and others throughout history.
Gentlemen, a moment please... Why jump to the troll conclusion? This is the GENERAL forum and I think some tolerance is called for. Why not take the kinder, gentler assumption that this is a child who needs education, lets be generous. A recent post in the classic forum recently addressed the issue of SRR's "so called" greatness. Based on Manassa's research reposted below it was proved that SRR did NOT belong in a p4p top 5 since he lacks resume. Joe Ghnouly Pete Lello Maxie Shapiro Maxie Berger Norman Rubio x2 Tony Motisi Reuben Shank Izzy Jannazzo x4 Ralph Zannelli Sheik Rangel Tommy Bell x2 George Costner x2 Jose Basora x2 Jimmy McDaniels Cecil Hudson x2 Georgie Abrams Jimmy Doyle Bernard Docusen Vic Dellicurti Steve Belloise Aaron Wade Ray Barnes Robert Villemain x2 Charley Fusari Bobby Dykes Holly Mims Artie Levine Cyrille Delanoit Rocky Castellani Denny Moyer Hans Stretz Ralph Dupas Sammy Angott x3 Fritzie Zivic x2 Jake LaMotta x5 Henry Armstrong Kid Gavilan x2 Carl Olson x4 Randolph Turpin Rocky Graziano Gene Fullmer Carmen Basilio Note: all fighters listed were rated in the RING's top ten at one point or another. Fighters in bold are Hall of Famers. As pitiful as this record is compared to someone like Harry Greb it is MILES in front of $money$. SRR has more KO's over top 10 rated foes than $money$ has fights. As $money$ is nearly done SRR 108 KO's will dwarf his 26. You know that ratio may be a valuable metric! Perhaps, on his best day, $money$ is about 1/4 the fighter SRR was. Based on accomplishment (and that does not include $moneyz$ excellence in cherry picking and $moneyz$ profoundly fast and deep ducking of the CHAMPION seen as his major threat) film study and examination of character (or in $moneyz$ case the lack of it) if it were possible to put prime versions of each in a ring there would indeed be domination displayed, you just have to short your pick to make $money$.
The assumption everyone is making is that the fight would take place now, SRR would be a completely different fighter with today's trainers, equipment and money. What i'd like to see is how Floyd would do in the 40's/50's, being broke until he won a championship, fighting ten or more times a year and with less weight divisions and only one champion per division. There were no "vacations" in those times my friends.
Yet wouldn't that go against the case of the Old Timers who say the Old Time Fighters were so good because of the past eras had top quality sparring partners, training, Trainers, and fought more often... Floyd's problem would be his hands though. Having time between fights have helped heal his hands. Although so has bringing in an Old timer that has worked on wrapping his hands better...which then again...given more people were involved in boxing back then...maybe they knew how to wrap hands better given the amount of fighters they were working with and learned from. Back in the day when Floyd was younger and lighter, he actually liked to fight more often because he felt it kept him sharp. He has that Old School mentality but has had to adapt with the times and his injuries. There are lots of great benefits in being in today's era though. ___
Lovely post. :good Sugar has Floyd's speed, but also genuine concussive KO power in either hand. It'a bit unfair on Mayweather who is naturally quite a bit smaller than Robinson.
Did Floyd ever have a record of 128-1-2? Also, don't forget Ray beat the one man who defeated him 5 times! Also, he beat the two men he drew with. Ray had knockout power in either hand. He was 85-0 as an amatuer. Was Floyd undefeated as an amatuer? I will answer.....NO! Mind you, this was when amatuer boxing was REAL boxing. NO HEADGEAR! If you are going to troll, do it elsewhere. Sugar Ray Robinson = the greatest pound-for-pound fighter who ever lived. Robinson would knock Floyd out.
I don't think SRR had any problem with sparring or skillset, but todays nutrition and fighting just twice a year instead of ten times allows a fighter's body to peak just at the right time. Add to that factors like weighing in the day of the fight and fighting 15 rounds instead of 12 and you have a totally different picture. SRR fought for 26 years, under todays conditions I wonder how long he could have fought? I don't think Floyd would do that bad in the old times tbh, but I don't think he would be as dominant as he is now. It doesn't matter who you are, fighting that often at that level will get you at some point.
THIS. If this idiot is going to make a fantasy match-up, it should have been with Floyd and someone at lightweight, which was Floyd's prime weight. (or Jr. Lightweight)
It's amazing how everyone spots the **** troll (probably a *******) yet continue to engage him in conversation :nut
