Cool Harry Greb Facts for Those Who Don't Know

One of boxings great shames, that there is no Harry Greb footage :-(

 

For the record, I don't think the Langford at that time would have "flattened" Dempsey, but maybe he could've won. Again, who knows? Langford in later career had major eye troubles of his own.

 

So what happened to that?

 

So tell me your top 10 based on ONLY what you know from first hand personal experience.

 

I have seen both resumes. That is more than enough for any rational person without an agenda to defend.

The old school fighters were just amazing.

i struggle with todays fighters needing 6 months to build a fight and all talk of ppv's.

 

It is available on Youtube, but it is only training footage.

 

Oh, I thought you meant actual fighting footage, I've seen the training footage many times.

 

I know, right. The top guys just make too much money these days. I mean, it is good for them from a health standpoint, but it can hurt their legacies, especially if they don't fight the best of their era. Sugar Ray Leonard only had 40 professional fights, but his legacy is quite sound, so he is an exception.

 

I notice that old school fighters seem to be a lot more modest and willing to give props to others than modern fighters.

 

I'd say so. His top five wins are about as great as any. I think the absolute sparkling records they all had at the time he fought them puts an extra layer of glaze over it too though.

Then what are you arguing about all the time? I'd figured Robinson wasn't in your Top 25.

 

When did i say that i just think he isn't #1. I also think that he isn't perfect which most of you you seem to think

 

A lot of fans biased toward the fighters of recent times typically roll their eyes at the number if HOFers the old school beat in their day, sort of like "yeah whatever, everybody was HOF quality then". It just isn't true though. Back then, it was difficult to even maintain a position as a top 10 rated guy, much less become a world champion. There were so few options, you had to fight the best and you had to fight to put food on the table. Becoming established was much more difficult. As far as HOFers are concerned, take a look at Willie Pep compared to Ray Robinson or Henry Armstrong. It's not really close.
