The one blemish on Frochs record (apart from ward and kessler was a fight I actually think he won) is Calzaghes biggest win. That might tip it in Calzaghes favour. However, if you take Eubank, Reid, Kessler, Lacy, Jones and Hopkins as Joes best wins you have 3 fighters whose best days were clearly behind them and then reid, kessler and lacy. Compare that with pascal, taylor, johnson, abraham, bute. johnson and taylor were past their best so you take bute, abraham and pascal. I think Frochy has a better record at this stage.
I think he's more than certainly joined the brigade of SMWs we can look very fondly upon. I'd love to see a rematch with Kessler.
Any person can tell Kessler won against Froch, it was close but clear. Congrats to froch on KTFOing bute.
I thought Froch lost to a faded version of a guy Calzaghe beat at his best when he himself was past his own best. :conf
Joe was protected for this majority of his career, I really respect Carl, he's extremely personable; he fights nothing but legit competition. I think it's certainly close. I hope that Carl avenges his Kessler loss, he's definitely an improved fighter since that fight, and I'd expect him to do Kessler.
No pun intended? Meh, I'm not really sure, I'd still say they're even. It wasn't a hugely positive win but I thought the Hopkins and Kessler win still stood head and shoulders over anything Froch has done. If Froch came back to knock out Kessler in the rematch, then I'd probably reconsider. If he beat Ward in a rematch (which I just don't ever see happening), for sure.
But Carl's willingness, no -- his EAGERNESS to seek out and fight the best is just so extraordinary! Especially if you consider Calzaghe could have been traveling earlier and taking on names that could have given him a more powerful legacy (even in the event he lost 1 or 2 along the way) than he has now. Carl may have never been able to beat Calzaghe, but he symbolizes EVERYTHING that is good about the sport! I think you need to take those things into consideration when looking at the valid Kessler component that certainly plays some role in all of this. But is that REALLY the whole story? I don't think so. Not in my view. :good
Je t'aime playing in the background brother? Gimme a break. It's essentially a question of being; two men in the ring face to face, irrespective of romance! We all know who the better fighter is; we all know who wins. Who has had to travel more, (due in no small part to initially aligning oneself with an inferior promoter and entering a tournament which necessitated such frequent flyer miles); yes certainly, but we must also accept that Atlantic city and Helsinki are both neutral.
Yes, and he should be remembered as the better fighter. Calzaghe most talented but he must pay the price for all the smoke 'n mirrors, ducking and cherrypicking. Needless to say Froch goes down as a better fighter than Hatton too, that much is clear.
Yes he has a much better resume, perhaps h2h calzaghe beats froch but overall froch must be remembered as greater fighter.
Froch for me. Only because Calzaghe took the easy option when available, perhaps thats unfair? Perhaps it was his management team. Either way, Froch continues to prove he fights anyone anywhere. Fantastic credit to boxing and this, for me, makes him the better fighter with the better legacy.
Calzaghe was badly managed, an under achiever in my book. Froch has just been stuck in with practically everybody, not many fighters have a 75% win rate at genuine world class. Carl has fought them all back to back too.
If calzaghe was around and he entered the super 6 he would win it, thats says it all really, hes just a better fighter and froch would lose to joe!
