According to IBF rules if a member of your team is standing on the side of the ring in between rounds the fight is automatically over with victory in favour of the other guy.

Butes team were throwing in the towel before Hearn got in the ring.

If anyone should have been disqualified it should have been Bute. IBF rules state that if any member of a fighter's corner get on the ring apron during the round their fighter is immediately disqualified. Bute's corner men were on the ring apron with the towel before Eddie Hearn jumped in the ring.

It was poor refereeing. There was no need for a count, and the ref made it look like he was waving the fight off instead of giving a count.

Either way, Froch destroyed Bute. Everyone knows what the result should have been even if it wasn't given.

and when I first saw it I was thinking what a nuts fan jumping in the ring before I realised who it is.

 

Being a big froch fan it may seem strange but the ref went for a standing 8 count and Hearn being the absolute twat that he is could have arguably got froch DQed and would not have been surprised if the ref did this.

Edit: never realised about that IBF ruling. Still Hearns a ****ing *****.

The rules in this regard need to be clarified by all the governing bodies. It would have been an absolute travesty if Froch was disqualified last night.
The op does have a point though, and according to the letter of the law, it is not unthinkable that he could have been unjustly punished for his promoter's overzelous actions.
Thank goodness the right decision was made.
