Was Lucian Bute that bad or was Carl Froch that good?

The way Bute had performed at a lower level would have suggested that he would be a very tough fight for Froch. It was no doubt a brilliant performance.

It was so important that Froch put everything into his punches early on and didn't allow Bute to find his range at all. It was a worry that Froch would sit back for too long as hes sometimes shown in the past but he was perfect last night, waited for his moments brilliantly and made it count. Thought Froch looked as quick as ever as well, he was in top shape.

I think last night proves Johnson just went to Canada for a payday as well in their fight. He should have theoretically been a nightmare for Bute.

Good post Dr, I think the bit in bold was down to Froch landing that left hand. He also roughed Bute up in round 1 and ref spoke to both but watch Bute's body language he didn't like it but prior to all that happening he charged out and was moving sharp with feet and upper body and looked like he fancied job. He settled down as you say a little but as soon as Carl pressured him he capitulated. He was so easy to hit it was unreal .

I don't think they will take rematch, just way Bute looked to ref to stop it and in general the manner of defeat i can see him moving up to LHW and try forget it ever happened.

I have just rewatched the fight and it's kinda funny how easily at times Froch was able to leap in from a distance with right handers, mostly, or using Bute's forwards momentum to counter back at him - Bute simply couldn't anticipate any of it coming. Either this was his weakness always, or Froch was much quicker than Bute thought he was.

Plus Bute will look at that fight and wonder why he kept sticking on the ropes and slugging it out. As well.

    Bute got exposed.

I think he'll do this too. He might try to enforce the rematch at 175 in Montreal; his team may think he'd be more durable and Froch isn't a 'heavy' SMW. Not sure what the stipulations of the rematch clause were though.

Bute, even after a devastating loss is still top 4 in the division and was seen as No. 2 by most beforehand.

Froch was perfect last night. When he listens to McCracken (like last night and against AA) he is phenomenal.

I think he could take out Kessler in the return.

Much agreed. I do feel that it may be a little different if they rematch, though. I'd still pick Froch the winner, but I felt that the crowd and having the home town support behind him really sprung him up. The level of motivation to do it again and have that buzz may not be the same in the rematch if they fight in Canada.

Totally agree, I haven't seen Kessler-Green but i feel Froch's determination and better discipline since first fight would see him to victory.
Yeah i agree, Bute would be more cautious well i presume he would be . Atmosphere as you say being different as well does help. Home comforts do help, sadly for Lucian, Carl still stops him.

Bute took the plaudits praise for pushing back Johnson previously and he thought he could do it against Froch. I also think Froch won the mind games in the build up too. Carl shat on his title reign and he wasn't impressed.

His confidence was beaten out of him everytime Froch landed. He wasn't expecting Froch to catch him or prepared for a streetfight. He lost his legs and his defence was awful. When was the last time you seen Froch connect with lead uppercuts?

Frochs always been known as a tough fighter but he took it to a new level last night. Looking at him when he attacked was intense. Talk about gritting your teeth? The guys gumshield must be made of kryptonite the way he chomps down on it.

I think Froch was that good, but he didn't get to fight as planned. Froch realised he could take Bute's shots and his were damaging Bute so he upped the pressure. It was a very considered performance by Froch, the finishing was chilling - cold and clinical. It reminded me of the end of the Taylor fight, Froch stalking his opponent and delivering accurate hurtful punches.

Froch's hands were just too heavy for Lucian's fragile chin, right from the opening round.

Watching it live as soon as Froch landed in the 2nd I saw Bute's leg suffer and i knew he was going to get KO'd.
Then when Froch took Bute's best shots in the third with no real effect this just compounded the inevitable outcome.
What is worrying is that Froch was able to get to Bute without even having to set up of the jab.
Plenty of posetes on here myself included where worried about Froch's limited inside fighting ability but Bute's was even worse. He was clueless and scared of the power and just held at every opportunity.

I though Bute was worse than Froch was good (if that makes sense). Bute seemed lost in there and every shot seemed to shake him to his boots. His defense was non existent and his speed just wasn't there. I think it proved that Bute is either a hype job or had an awful day at the office.

That said it was Froch's best career performance by some way

I thought it was odd, admittedly I haven't seen as much as most of you of Bute but his stance looked all wrong, even when he was taking shots he seemed to leave one of his arms down, again I believe that's his stance but at times he should have put them both up earlier and looked to catch Froch as he was throwing.

Froch on the other hand looked almost surprised; although it was a short fight at times Bute was clearly hurt (earlier than when it ended) but Froch was almost reluctant to finish him off, Bute was desperately trying to grab his stomach but at times Froch seemed to let him as if he was scared of Bute countering or something.

Great performance from Froch who's accuracy and power was quite amazing but at the same time disappointing from Bute who didn't seem to know what to do from the first bell.

I want a gif of Froch taking the fabled left uppercut to the body and laughing it off.

Bute is certainly better than Lacy was. I was just suprised how easily Froch hurt him, I think Bute might have been overcome by the occasion slightly. Froch fought a perfect fight though.
