I'd predict overdose on cocaine, sadly. He once described cocaine as his mistress. Sad news. My condolences to the Tapia family.

 

I got into boxing around 1999, and remember his fights with Ayala as helping me stay in the sport. I always hoped the best for him. Very fun to watch, spoke from the heart, was the real deal, he will be missed.

 

Sad to hear, he lived the crazy life. Have to admit he was a warrior in the ring.

I think the man had been declared dead from drug overdoses multiple times before this. It's sad to say, but I think it was expected on some level. I think that's what we are seeing here.

I don't think any "Tapia" you have ever seen on trunks was for Johnny. MAB wore it on his trunks because I believe it's his mothers maidens name, others will no for sure.

Hopefully now we will see some Tapia's in honor of Johnny.

It is sad to say, but I have been expecting this for years. Johhny Tapia was such a nice, humble guy. He had MAJOR addiction issues with cocaine. I know it hasn't been announced yet, but I will be surprised if this wasn't a cocaine overdose. Either way, it is sad news for the boxing world.

If you knew anything about Spanish names, you would know that the mother's maiden name is always added at the end of the children's names.
