Ali knocking out Foreman greatest moment in boxing history?

Its up there Foreman was young, powerful and menacing at the time. Ali, was considered over the hill (which at 32 was ob surd) and didn't have the punch to beat Foreman. They were wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

It's a great moment, but I don't know how you would determine what is thee absolute greatest boxing moment. Heck, it's pretty much impossible to do if you throw in all sports. There are a lot of great candidates out there.

 

Including Muhammad himself. In maybe the last coherent interview I saw him conduct, he was asked what he considered his greatest achievement in boxing, and he cheerfully replied in a clearly audible whisper: "Liston!" He seemed perfectly confident about this answer.

 

For me, yes it is. It's got everything you'd want when trying to pick one moment for such a high accolade.

Nobody had witnessed a more 'frightening explosion'.

A 'little guy' destroys a 'big guy' in brutal fashion.

 

The question is a bit ambiguous.

The greatest moment as in...the whole fight,

or

The greatest moment as in...the last several seconds of the fight. (Punches leading up to the knockdown and the knockdown itself.

I tend to think of it in terms of the second option. In that case, it's one of the most iconic moments in boxing history. (I'd rate Marciano knocking out Walcott higher though, for one.)

 

It was certainly my own FAVOURITE moment in boxing history,being an Ali fan. Probably my single fave sporting moment,per se. But everyone has their own number one memories. Someone whose favourite boxer is Joe Frazier would,no doubt name their own number one as the fifteenth round knockdown of Ali in the Fight of the Century. A Bjorn Borg Tennis fan would say that his was when Borg eclipsed Fred Perry's record at Wimbledon.

This is why it's so tough to name THE greatest sporting moment in history.

I'd say it's Robinson being cut in the 9th round against Turpin in their rematch and being told by the referee that he's got one round left before the fight is stopped and then going out in the 10th and stopping Turpin - Or - Being written off after his 2.5 year layoff and knocking out Olson in 2 to regain the title in dramatic fashion - Or - The Greatest Left Hook Ever Thrown in the Fullmer rematch. :yep

For Duran fans, there are numerous candidates. Same for Leonard, Ali, et al. Pick your favorite fighter and choose a 'moment' type deal.

 

The greatest moment for me was Paul Pender regaining the middleweight title from Terry Downes...with the Corro-Antuofermo fight coming in a close second.

I remember the Corro-Antuofermo one very well,Cobra. Action packed all the way with Vito doing just enough to pull it out.
