WBC silver light heavyweight champion Mikkel Kessler (sat ringside on Saturday night in Nottingham, and watched Carl Froch (29-2, 21KOs) issue a five round beating on previously undefeated Lucian Bute to capture the IBF's belt at 168.

Bute's promoter was recently in talks with Sauerland Event, hoping to stage a fight with Kessler for later in the year.

Back in 2010, in Denmark, Kessler won a twelve round decision over Froch in a classic battle of fighting spirits and power punches. Kessler is now very interested in another fight with the Nottingham boxer.

"You could not fail to be impressed by the way Froch boxed and he was a different fighter to the one which lost to Andre Ward earlier this year. I think you could say his display was just about punch perfect. He landed with the majority of his big shots and his accuracy was excellent," Kessler told Daily Express.

"I have nothing but respect for Froch and I think the feeling is mutual. We fought each other in the ring, it was a great fight and I won. I am sure Froch thinks he will beat me next time and I hope there is a next time as I will show him again that I am the better fighter.

“I would have no problem travelling to England to face Froch. He came to Denmark, so why not?”

It will be close again and nod will go to Froch in England. Then the rubber match should be on neutral grounds

Nah, Kessler is slipping, I don't think he's the same fighter as he was in 2010.

If Froch boxes behind his jab, he could win wide on the cards IMO.

I had Froch slightly edging the first fight and thought I could see signs of a decline in Kessler that night, which look even more pronounced after the Green fight. This time around I think you'd have to make Froch a heavy favourite, especially if he performs anywhere like he did last night.

Remember when Froch felt he ended Kesslers career?. Sick guy .

Well if this gets made he will finish his days at top level, I think if he listened to Rob in first fight instead of war mongering he'd of won that even though Froch edged it on my card. Kessler punched well to body and that's what changed fight in his favor. Froch i think has improved since then technically and tactically.

Both seem well up for it surely an easy fight to be made and will sell bigger than the Bute fight did

Kessler is used to travelling, I dont think it will affect him like it did Bute who was a bit too familiar with hometown fighting.

Couldn't agree more. The comment about ending his career seemed daft at the time but he does seem to have faded since then, although I think Ward was also a big factor in Mikkel's slide.

Can't wait for this to get made, Saturdays fight was amazing and I can't wait to be back in the FM arena.

  14. I fancy froch to win comfortably if they get Kessler over, Maybe even a late stoppage. Kessler certaintly doesn't look the same fighter now that he was.

Someone stated on ladbrokes they had odds of 7/4 for Kessler to be Froch's next opponent surely that is looking like easy money?

Edit: Just remembered that there is a contracted rematch

    Mikkel Kessler
    7/4
    Lucian Bute
    3/1
    Andre Ward
    9/2
