Did you hear Jeffries once picked up a moose and sprinted 9 miles home carrying it on his shoulders...old timers still tell that tale Seamus

No he did not lol. Some of the strongest men in the world can only curl 100 lbs for some reps. aint nobody punching with a 100 lb dumbell

Dosen't sound plausible to me at all. Wonder if he did this in the same gym where Monzon knocked out Frazier?

Punching with weights - very light weights - is actually not a bad way to improve shoulder endurance. But that's it. As some people have already mentioned, heavier weights will lead to injury and contribute little to the development of punching power.

In all seriousness it would surprise me if Foreman was able to shadow box with dumbbells weighing 50lbs, let alone 100lbs, at least for any decent length of time. He might have been able to pick them up and extend his arms a few times with them but that's about it. An impressive feat of strength nonetheless, but remember he was a very strong boxer and not a competitive strongman.

Ive seen film of him pulling a jeep and chopping wood, and
Doing traditional weight work I believe. Maybe thats about it.
Anybody have any info what they had him doing in the 70s?
I know he was literally a street thug and was probaby already
a big hulking type of dude. Perhaps he did normal strength routines
And the power came naturally and with his technique,or antitechnique
The looping punches and all. The footage of =eorge hitting the heavybag
is unreal, the guy holding the heavybag can barely hold on.

  6. He's using wide slow punches that caved in the biggest sized heavybag! That most certainly DID bother Ali. Ali went to Cus d'amato because he was spooked. And Sadler was moved by those punches too.

Norman Mailer, an annoying blowhard who road the legacy of a great debut novel for the next 60 years?

    Say it isn't so.

Funny thing about George working the heavy bag that way...That is exactly what Liston did before the first Ali fight. Speculation was that it was because he couldn't move any more, so they tried to highlight he could whale away on an immobile bag. In fairness, the speculation came after the fight.
In his 2nd career George did do quite a bit of work with heavy dumbbells (no, not Adilson Rodriguez!!), but not for punching. He was building up his arms, with the idea that, given his cross-arm defense, he would be better able to absorb punches.

Not to be a nitpicker, but did Foreman really build up much more muscle mass during his comeback? I mean, George was definitely heavier, so his body measurements would of course grow. But simply lifting heavy weights wouldn't necessarily lead to a growth in size unless the person were eating a hyper-caloric diet along with it. During training, George was always trying to lose weight, not gain muscle mass. Unless George were extremely lucky or using some type of chemical help, I doubt he'd be able to grow muscle size and lose fat at the same time.

I don't know if it worked or not. I just saw him on tv, doing curls with heavy looking dumbbells, and that is what he said he was trying to do.

George could no doubt curl 100 lbers. I can curl 50lbs
and George is prob 1000 times stronger than me.
Now looking at those barbels it does look a lil to
dangerous though to box with. Lyles 1000 pushups
in an hour seems unreal too, but I dont doubt it.
I think my high was 110a in an hour with many long
breaks. So I guess pulling jeeps make you invinsible.

I have no idea if this story on George and the barbell is true, but about his punching power Freddy Askew who fought a young Foreman tells this story; Fred was raised on a farm in Tennesee and on one occasion was too near an enraged horse who kicked up with both his hind legs and hit Fred in the head. Fred didn't wake up for a almost two days and swears to this day that George hit harder.

I gurantee foreman could barely curl a 100 lb dumbell let alone throw a punch with one. Look at this video. Kevin levrone was one of the most powerful bodybuilders ever an he has to use momentum an alot of body language just to curl it.
