I think I need to read his book again... I think I remember Johnny saying he felt most at peace while in the ring!
Damn just read it on the news. RIP Johnny Tapia. Sad time for boxing w/ the P.Willy thing aswell. I hope they eventually make a movie about Tapia's life, he certainly lived it to the limit
Man ain't that the truth. R.I.P. Johnny you were fun as hell to watch. Didn't know about Pwilly dang.
Shocking but not shocking. Sad, but perhaps he will finally rest easy. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
one of the greatest little men to lace them up he personified the word fighter in so many more ways than just a boxer from all he endured during his life it is tragic loss to his family an close friends but to his loyal following to who he connected with so strong it also hurts cuz that man was so real an genuine that man would be in a war an in between rounds smiling sayn lve you grandma classic stuff ,to those thrown out allegations an rumors of how that **** is irrelavent RIP CHAMP you will truley be missed
terrible news, Tapia was MY #1 Favorite fighter from the mid 90's to early 2000's. As a teenager he turned me from a casual fan to a fanatic of the sport. Terrible day in boxing.
I go on vacation for this memorial day weekend and comeback to this...Damn!!!:-( RIP Tapia...You're gonna be missed!
It's not the most surprising news considering the way Johnny lived but saddening as hell none the less. The best thing you can say about him is that he always came across as real. He never seemed to bull**** or pretend to be anything he wasn't, he just was who he was whether it was good or bad. A great personality and a total ****ing warrior, the man was a total one off.
The sad thing is,he's really been a guy for the hardcore fans. Sad that it'll probably take this happening to bring him to the attention of a wider audience and many younger fans.:verysad Remember I told you that I was told Johnny was on the mend IB? I hate that the great man got it wrong, because I wanted to believe it was true. It's another tragic year for boxing but this one's hitting me the hardest.
Rest in peace champ you will never be forgotten for the great fights you gave us. Horrible week for boxing.
Well, we don't yet officially know for certain that he backslid - the autopsy is being performed as we speak... but yeah, the toxicology report will likely bear out what we're all fearing we already know...especially given his age and history... Yeah, tough after hearing that bright outlook from someone close.. It could be that Johnny did convincingly project being on an upward track to his friends, and not that Marco was just oblivious to the signs.
