We won't know if Bute is a hype job, until we see him fight other quality opponents.

Sorry, this is ESB. One fight and you're done. Froch was over a few years back.

Dirrell was brought along rather poorly/quickly in terms of the tourney. Someone like Arum would have made him into a monster. Arum gets **** on a lot here but Dirrell is the perfect example why TR is tops at what they do.

Agreed. Arum has the best record of any promoter of all time, when it comes to creating marketable stars. Ironically, he created his only real competitor.

Froch exposed Bute's weaknesses, not the fighter as a whole. I think he'll definitely come back and position himself for another elite matchup, whether he wins or not is down to if he can fix them exploited weaknesses.

one fight does not make a fighter but a 5th round KO does make a pretty loud statement.

I agree, but the thing is, he already proved himself a pretty good fighter when he dismantled Johnson. Johnson greatly impressed me against Froch, and Bute had his way with him. Old or not, the display of skill was impressive.

One fight certainly doesn't make a fighter, but he's already lopsidedly defeated two fighters in the current SMW top ten. Both were recent opponents of Froch and Ward. These fights still exist.

Great post. I never thought about Arum creating the Mayweather monster. He truly is Dr. Frankenstein.

Exactly. Some people are acting like Bute went from beating guys with losing records and then losing to Froch. We already know that Bute is a good fighter because he's beaten good opponents himself. Sure, he might not fulfill some expectations but he isn't ever going to be a hype job either because hype job wouldn't have been able to do what Bute has.

Can't someone ever just be...good? Do they have to either a P4P great or a bum? ESB is so melodramatic at times.
