...and Lewis had every right to be cautious with Tyson. There's a difference between being cautious with the likes of Mormeck and Chambers as there is with Tyson, no matter how old. You're still hurt coz he never caught Lewis with anything.

Lewis is the only fighter that never had to taste and deal with Tyson's power. I'd still pick him to beat Mike circa 1996, but he'd get to feel a few punches of significance and my guess is he weathers them and scores a late TKO. Pre-prison is genuinely 50/50 for me. Lewis was a Beast.. A few tempting trolls aren't going to drive me to besmirch the man.

Yep i agree with all of this Hands apart from the peak Tyson bit, where i still see the best Lewis being a big struggle for that Tyson. Bare in mind i'm talking the best Lewis here and not with total confidence. More 70/30 for me with Tyson's chances diminishing after 5 rounds. But i am biased.

If Lewis comes into that fight saying he's not getting KO'ed then he isn't imo, against a peak Tyson, Lewis would be switched on all night. But yeah mate Lewis would definitely have to show his resolve against '96 Mike, obviously more so '88 Tyson.

 

It's not out of line to feel that way, even if you're sporting a Lion head dress .. Lewis holds a very generous weight advantage on peak Tyson. Size matters. Size + Skill Kills. Lewis takes so much from his opponents just from what goes on in the clinches, has probably the hardest jab the division has seen, a devastating right cross among other things. I don't put it past Tyson to actually take decisions in these types of fantasy match-ups against fighters of similar size, but I'm not sure he can in this fight due to what the above is going to sap from his stores. I'd bet money he gets to Lennox at least once in three fights, although I'd like to say 2 out of 3. :good

Spot on bud, Lewis' physical AND mental strength are the big pluses i look at for him when facing Tyson. Mike could be frustrated by big men and Lewis was more than just big...and yeah i'd be a fool not to have Tyson winning at least 1 out of 3. :good

edit - every round would be a minefield for Lewis. It was to some extent in '02.

 

Lewis showed great resolve at several different points, particularly against Mercer and Vitali. That's no secret a weak area when assessing Tyson although a fair example of his not being dismayed by a fighter showing no intimidation of him were the Ruddock wars. He took as well as he gave and had to work for those wins, even grinding out a decision in which he had a couple point deductions against him. Although Ruddock showed an obvious willingness to trade with him which had to be encouraging, something Holyfield (and Lewis) weren't going for. On another note, it's Holyfield's mistake of typically doing just that in his early 90s form that would've spelled his doom had they fought as scheduled in 1991 imo.

 

If Rachman and McCall put Lewis to bed... Prime Tyson certainly can. Again... The Tyson Lewis fought was DONE. Only after 8 rounds of huffing and puffing did Mike finally fall and decide he was too tired to get up. Not impressed with Lewis win over that Tyson.

Tyson did not avenge any defeats at all.

Tyson is not a real champion. A real champion avenges his defeats when the defeats happen at a time he could still fight at a high level.

Tyson could have avenged himself against Douglas he could have against Holyfield. He did not.
