Floyd wouldn't fight him unless Duran was 60 years old & still fighting, so the point is moot. If only guys like Floyd & RJJ had 1/10th of the faith in their abilities that their kooky fans do...
Duran went all the way up to what...super middle to challenge Barkley? Floyd ducked Margarito. ****... Then Floyd ducked Pac. Then he said he was going to fight Martinez. Add another duck. If you SAY you are going to fight someone DO IT. Martinez will fight Floyd for $10. Floyd DUCKED MARTINEZ. Do you hear Pacquaio say, I'll fight this guy and then not do ****? **** no. The best should fight the best. If Mayweather actually FIGHTS Pacquaio instead of talkin **** and hidin like a *****, then we can put him in the discussion with Duran. Until then, nope...
Is this seriously what people have been reduced to? Has the average boxing i.q. dropped so far as too see folks actually believing this horse****? Look, I realize that not every fighter from previous eras would fare as well against comparatively modern day fighters, I get that, and there's some truth to that in some cases. THIS however, is not one of them. This isn't like an old NBA team from back when the average basketball player was about 6'2'' trying to face a modern team where it's not uncommon for most of the players to be scraping 7'0" or near that. This isn't like an like an old NFL team where the rules were dramatically different, and the athletes were not nearly as athletic overall facing a modern day Superbowl caliber team. With fighters it's a bit different. Skill is not exclusive to time in this scenario. Just because a lot of the fighters from yesteryear don't benefit from modern sport science doesn't mean they are inferior boxers. Guys have been in excellent shape, with excellent conditioning, and superb skills for a very long time. The styles that exist today, existed years ago as well, and there were fighters back then who knew how to beat them, just as there are today. I'd just like to hear from anyone who actually has an intelligent argument, not just conjecture and fan boy fever, and I'd like to hear in a cognitive comprehensive fashion, just how in what way, through what devices and in what realm of reality that it is Floyd Mayweather would stand a reasonable chance, let alone BEAT a fighter like Roberto Duran. I'm not going to go through explaining how flawed a logic it is to believe such at the moment because no relevant argument has been brought forth, but in the event that one does I will take my time and break down to you how utterly mind numbing of a concept it is to even entertain the thought. It makes me queasy just saying it, that Floyd Mayweather would beat Roberto Duran at any weight class let alone at all, it makes me physically ill to even say those words in any capacity. The challenge has been made. If there are any takers, be warned, you better bring your "A" game and really think this **** through because you've got an order taller than the biggest building and the highest mountain ahead of you. Please, I'd love to hear this.
I agree. The way that Mayweather didn't lose a round vs Jose Luis Castillo, Miguel Cotto, Ricky Hatton and Jesus Chavez tells me that he would also dominate a guy who fought in a similar style to those guys but was infinitely better in every way. atsch
I hate when guys bring up 1 perfomance and judge that as how the fight would go, many of you bring up Castillo 1,and say Duran would execute that gameplan. What about SRL gameplan for making Duran quit? Is Floyd not capable of that?? My point is stop picking 1 fight and judging how the fight would go,bc both guys have perfomances in there past that was less than stellar. Prime for Prime ill take Mayweather at 130 and 147.Duran at 135 and 140.
I like Floyd, but I don't see anything that he has that would keep Duran off of him. Not enough power to keep Duran off of him, and if he went to the ropes, well take a look at the Buchanan fight to see what Roberto did to guys who tried to fight him off the ropes. He had that overhand right that he practically threw downward, and I think that would have taken care of Floyd's shoulder roll thing. Duran by late KO
