Pirog's awkward style giving GGG some early problems before Golo getting into rhythm and is able to time Dmitry time and time again to a possible stoppage. If not, a tactical fight may be dull and pick-em, but I see GGG getting to land his big shots sooner or later.

Can argue a case for either fighter to be honest.
Location may be a factor. I think GGG wil KO Pirog, or, Pirog will UD GGG.

When I look at this fight I think of 2 factors

1- is Pirogs style a major factor in this fight
2- is GGG able to display the same power at a higher level - he certainly was as amateur. But as a pro his level of opposition has been somewhat limited. So can he bring the same perfomances to the big league? I think he can.

I think you raise some good points, especially with regard to the two most likely outcomes. The initial rumors for Pirog-Geale is that the fight would take place in Washington state on a card with Dzinziruk. Wherever it takes place, I imagine Pelullo and Shaw will be the main promoters for this fight, rather than K2.

My initial thought the first time this fight was seriously discussed after the Simon KO was to favor Pirog, as he simply seemed more defensively careful than Golovkin. However, I think I may have underrated Golovkin's defensive capabilities on the basis of the Ouma fight, where he simply looked reckless. Likewise, the Ishida and Maciel have shown what appear to be certain leaks in Pirog's defense. I also don't want to be too hasty in jumping to conclusions on him though, as like Golovkin vs. Ouma, Pirog may have been a little less careful on defense in those fights due to his going up against two junior middleweights.

The power difference between the two fighters will of course also play a major role here. Can Pirog make Golovkin respect his punches? In his fights since the Jacobs KO he hasn't put anyone down. That could largely be a product of Maciel's craftiness and Ishida and Martirosyan displaying solid chins in those two fights, but it might also leave one wondering whether Pirog possessed the one-punch power many attributed to him immediately after the Jacobs performance. The other obvious question, as you noted, is whether Golovkin's punches will have as paralyzing an effect on Pirog as they seem to have had for practically everyone else he's faced so far.

This will certainly be an interesting style match-up, as will be Sturm-Geale. Hopefully both are made official soon.

If HBO is showing the fight I'd wager it's taking place in the US. I know Golovkin and his manager have been trying to push themselves onto the US market so it makes sense this would be his debut. They'll probably pair this with a fight that features a US based prospect.

Well for the Pirog-Geale date they were going to try to pair it with Trout-Dzinziruk. With Trout fighting Rodriguez though, I think that's no longer an option, but they'll still probably try to get Dzinziruk on the card since the network still owes him a fight.

Pirog is way too hittable. He can't take Golovkin's bombs all night.

For me, GGG is one of the very best fighters from 160-175lbs at timing a great bomb accurately on someone's chin. Pirog has great movement and is unorthodox, but if someone can time that bomb accurately, it's got to be GGG.

What I'm interested in seeing is whether GGG actually manages to outbox Pirog early on. I know that intuitively it's hard to imagine that, but I think GGG will actually be able to do it. :good

I'm actually a little disappointed that this fight might be happening now. It could be the best two MW going at, but it needs some more build up. I could see either guy winning this. Golovkin has great power, but Pirog does well countering off aggressive fighters, and has the ability to get a stoppage over GGG. Pirog-N'jikam might still happen instead, but if Pirog-Golovkin does happen in the US it needs to be in NY.

GGG is more than just a banger. He will stop Pirog midway through the fight.

Mid-rounds KO for Golo. I just think Pirog is a little too cute with his style and it makes him hittable.

The Triple G will KO PiroG in the mid rounds I guess.
But I expect the beginning of the fight to be very competitive.

Wait, is this fight happening or is it a hypothetical match up?
