why did lewis turn down 13.5 million to fight tyson prior to fighting mercer for chump change then?
can anyone shed any light on how true these are too about lewis refusing fights?
not hating just somethings i have read from varios news articles over the years and wanted to see if anyone knew if there is any truth.
refused £6 million to fight Bowe in 1992
refused £10 million to fight Bowe in 1995
refused $30 million to fight Roy Jones in 2001
refused £8 million to fight Herbie Hide in 1995
refused $13.5 million to fight Tyson in 1996
refused $30 million to fight Vitali Klitschko in 2004

Lennox was clearly winning the fight 10-9 on two of the three scorecards at the time of the controversial referee stoppage. Lennox was on his feet at the count of six, head was clear, his legs strong and was ready to fight. Lennox had hurt McCall several times in the fight and was getting outslugged, outworked, outmuscled and outboxed by Lennox.

Yep i was gonna mention the Mercer fight and while Lewis was starting to look good at that point, he wasn't the finished HW he would become under Steward. But it goes without saying he would have showed more self preservation against Tyson in '96 than he did against Mercer (i would hope). He also shipped some heavy flush shots from Tucker too which people forget, especially in the 8th and 9th.

Good points about the Ruddock fights and i for one don't think Tyson folds as soon as someone stands up to him, which he proved against Ruddock and simply looking at his defeats to Douglas/Holy/Lewis should tell people this aswell. While he'd clearly regressed in '91, he was still an animal.

The Holyfield point about him willing to trade more in the early 90's is valid too mate and something i overlook tbh in a Tyson fight. I always thought Holy's mental strength, will, and cuteness technically would see him through against Tyson back then, but i agree his gameness could play into Tyson's hands.
Damn shame that fight never happened in '91.

 

Lewis beat Tyson a whole fifteen years after Tyson Kod Spinks (the pinnacle of his career), i dont know how this translates into Lewis beating a Prime tyson. Lewis was much closer to his prime.

Also Tyson didnt 'duck' Lewis. He fought Holyyfield because
a) the money was there
b) they had unfinished business
c) the fans were asking for it.

Its like accusing Mayweather of ducking Martinez to fight PacMan
