http://www.mmamania.com/2012/5/31/3...nt-ufc-veteran-kenny-florian-retires-from-mma He really had nothing else to do in the sport at this point. Sure, he never won a title, but he was never gonna climb that mountain again anyways.
I can't really blame him. He had his shots at the title and lost them all. A very good fighter but just couldn't get to the top. Good luck to him.
A very good fighter who was invlved in some great fights. Came up short in his 3 title fights, but each of those guys were ATG at the weight class. The guy could punch, kick, could take punishment and dish it out brutally had great submissions, cardio was always on point and turned almost every fight into a chess match. His only real Achilles heal were top heavy wrestlers and freaks of nature like BJ and Aldo. But I dont think Ive seen anyone consistently get better after each loss as much as Kenny did. Probably the toughest ''nerd'' in the world He could have fought on, but as always Kenny uses his head and picks the right time to hang them up That Samurai outfit was ****ing lame though... It was right to retire, because there is no point in risking more injury to his back. I also will say I never liked the choker thing when it came to him. When he stepped up, he was either in a bad style matchup, or the other guy was just superior. I.E Aldo/BJ. Had he been able to go on, he would've been a hell of a test for most top guys tho.
Good decision. He'll have plenty to do in retirement. We'll see him in the broadcast booth no doubt. He's one of these guys that it's impossible not to cheer for. Too bad he never won the title, but really he squeezed everything he could out of the talent he had. He just didn't quite have the physical tools to get over the top. Still, he had a damned good career and was always a good guy to see on a card. Just sucks for him that he couldn't grab the gold and can't be introduced in the broadcast booth as "Former champion Kenny Florian." :hat
Somewhat agree, i think he had great skills but not the typical body that could take him to the next level...... Really not his fault. I guess he is an example of an athlete that would take great benefit from PED use
Enjoyed watching Kenny when his name was on the bill you knew it would be a decent fight, he moved down in his last attempt (I think) he coudnt keep doing that he looked a bit drawn! Good time to call it a day, he'll be a studio man!
Good on him. He did everything he could. He was always brave enough to beat good contenders but completely melted on the biggest stage. Good fighter who missed that special something that makes champs.
Good posts. I'm not a fan, but I have nothing but respect for Kenny Florian. He was involved in some great fights and always brought it, win or lose.
