Toney at his very best puts on a masterclass performance. Much better than what Ward was able to do because he actually has fluid combination punching ability and power. Not to mention his inside work is pinpoint/precise and not of the mauling variety (coupled with real old-school defense and not earmuffs aided by half-way decent reflexes).

James toney was one of the most talented ever at 168. he had everything, speed, defense, power, chin, skills and finishing ability. the question of who wins is a given. toney wins at 168, ten times out of ten. he would simply be the much better fighter. what I am left asking myself is, would froch's chin hold up?

Toney puts on an absolute schooling, beats him more decisively than ward did.

it depends on which toney shows up to fight. the out of shape Toney loses cause far to often at 168 he came to fights out of shape and froch would out work him. A focused ready James Toney might have given RJJ his first defeat. Focused James Toney would have beat Froch I think by decision.

Toney would probably take about 2 punches all fight.

Terrible, terrible match up for Froch.

James toney wasnt unbeatable like some of you make him out to be.Toney lost to Montell Griffin twice. Michael Nunn was owning him until a late hail merry punch. He drew and had Majority decision with Mike Maccallum.

James Toney is the worst steroid user in boxing history. In that even all the steroids and PEDS in world couldnt get his fat arse in good shape at HW. Without steriods he never coulda fought at a championship level at CW and a contender level at Hw.

**** off he never tested positive until he moved up to heavy.. Froch's head would come off in this one.. Toney slide and slips so nice Froch would need to think twice about actually punching..

You saw how he missed Ward completely with slow shots.. Toney Murders him round after round cause Froch's Defence is his CHin...:deal

I see Toney stopping him. I like Froch and he's a solid fighter, but he's just not going to consistently land effectively on Toney, nor is he going to stop the hard fast punches coming from Toney onto his tough but mortal chin.

This is a tough tough matchup. Even now I would love to see it even against old Toney.

Froch and Toney both have good chins. Both are skilled. Toney however has superior defensive skills but Froch has good reach, a long jab, and could really use his height to make up for a lot of that.

I'm picking Froch because I think Froch could take Toney's best punch and Toney likes to come into fights out of shape or underestimate his opponent and I think Froch overall is more consistent. I think the best Toney beats the best Froch but I think the average Froch beats the average Toney.
