"I take nothing away from Manny. We both made a great fight...He is fast and stronger than we thought he would be...He is fast and stronger than we thought he would be," stated former welterweight champion Miguel Cotto as he talked about his loss to Manny Pacquiao, his future plans and more.

PC: How are you doing Miguel?

MC: I'm doing pretty good, enjoying the holiday season.

PC: Now that you have had time to reflect on the Pacquiao fight, where do you feel you went wrong?

MC: Well, some details did not came out the way we wanted, but I take nothing away from Manny. We both made a great fight.

PC: Was coming down to 145 tougher than you thought it would be since you hadn't weighed 145 or less since 2006?

MC: I felt really good at that weight. It wasn't a problem for me.

PC: We all know Manny has a ton of speed, but was he a bigger puncher than you thought he would be?

MC: He is fast and stronger than we thought he would be.

PC: A lot of people felt that your corner should have stopped the fight. Was that not an option for you?

MC: No, I didn't want the fight stopped. I was feeling good.

PC: I read where you plan on retiring at 30, which is next year for you. Is that accurate and what led to that decision?

MC: I always said that when I get to age 30, I was going to be out of the ring. That decision has been made and has nothing to do with my defeats.

PC: When I think of Miguel Cotto, I think of a warrior; a fighter that can punch with both hands and also a fighter that would fight anyone. How would you like to be remembered?

MC: As a good fighter and a great champion.

PC: You have one, possibly two fights left if you plan on retiring in the fall of next year. What caliber of opponents would you like to go out facing?

MC: As I always said, I'm just another employee of Top Rank. I'm willing to fight the big names out there.

PC: Although the fight looks shaky now, who do you like if Pacqiao and Mayweather did hook up?

MC: The one with the best condition will win.

To be fair the weight wasn't really an issue. Although I feel if Cotto continued for 2 or 3 more fights at welterweight he may have started to struggle with the weight. I think the issue is that if 2 pounds doesn't make a difference then why didn't Pac just fight at 147 instead of doing what I perceive to be a bit of a *****'s manoeuvre and fight at a catchweight. Happy sweety :smooch?

I agree manny should have fought at 147! but he was coming up from 140 after facing hatton. so manny gaining 5 and cotto losing 2 isnt too bad really.

Put yourself in the same situation when Pacquioa accepted to face Oscar.. Fans were like, "He's got no chance!" and "He's only doing it for the money".. No one thought it would be one-sided.. Oscar just wanted to KO Pacquioa.. He did it before against Gatti.. :deal But he failed against Manny..

Same thing agaisnt Hatton, and Cotto.. And after Manny beat them all..

:good there are weight classes for a reason. Although gaining 5 and your opponent losing 2 seems fair in the surface, it's catchweight fights that will begin the introduction of even more weight classes, something we really don't need.

 

Catchweights IMO are ok if they bring together 2 fighters that wouldnt normally fight, but i think no world title should be fought at a catchweight

 

Haters gonna hate bro. Nothing you can do about it. However hindsight is a wonderful thing which certainly devalue the Hatton and Oscar wins, although many still don't realise Hatton was crying on the way to the ring and knew that he had overtrained. FTR I had PAC to beat Oscar and Hatton, whilst feeling the Cotto fight was a genuine 50-50.

Do you have any idea how they talk about this? The PPV thing of their last fights is an important factor.. :deal Pacquioa-Hatton did a huge number of PPV sales.. And you suggest that SSM-Margarito fight is also as huge as the Pacquioa-Hatton fight?

Manny Pacquioa fought Miguel Cotto who's also a welterweight champ.. :deal Manny Pacquioa gets the bigger split, the welterweight belt, and he fought Cotto... The guy who defeated SSM.. :deal

Slow down there. Cotto was not the man at welterweight when PAC fought him. Cotto was the man, then got beaten by margarito (plaster or no plaster it don't matter) Margarito got his **** pushed in by Mosley and Mosley was recognised as the number one welterweight in the world and also held the WBA super world welterweight champ which is a lot more prestigious that being ranked the 3rd/2nd ranked welterweight in the world and having the WBO strap to boot. Cotto was the 2nd best welterweight at the very most when PAC fought him.
