Frankie had the world at his feet and has seemed to blow it ( no pun intended) at least Audley came out (almost) fighting and is still trying to keep his name in 'lights' . Frankie just doesnt seem to care, hope this dont seem too harsh but most of us do mundane average jobs and would of loved to of been in this fella's shoes.

At least you took the time out of your hectic schedule to post this thread. That's what matters.

TBF mate, his mother did have a serious illness. Would've been tough for anyone to deal with. You never know what problems a man is going through.

I don't agree with him being a bigger disappointment than Audley. In fairness, Audley was a disappointment due to the hype and the fact he was a heavyweight. If he competed in any other weight class he'd be classed as a decent pro, but a better amateur. Some guys turn pro too late, and some guys just aren't suited to it. But as the casual fans love a heavyweight - as do the diehards - there were high hopes for him, and he's almost hated for not meeting them.

Gavin might have won a world gold as an amateur, but he didn't turn over with that mainstream hype and attention. So no, he's not a bigger disappointment. Hell, I don't even think it's fair to call Audley a disappointment as he just didn't have what it took to be a world class pro when he turned over, but Gavin's still got time. The biggest problem he's got now is that when Frank was trying to secure him fights he wasn't mentally right, and now that he's back on track Frank doesn't seem to have the dates for him. If he gets active then he's only a few fights away from winning a domestic title, and I doubt he'd hang around to win a Lonsdale - I expect he'd be moved into EBU contention from there.

Ero....blokes on the street doing normal jobs have exactly the same pressures and have to carry on earning a living. I've got every sympathy for him, and his families plight but ........

Normal blokes on the street don't get punched in the face or punch others in the face for a living. I can go to my work with personal stuff going on and either block it out or go through the motions - a boxing ring isn't the place to go through the motions.

    Possibly.

2008, When FG turned Pro, is a lifetime ago now and he hasn't done anything at all that's worth talking about in all honesty. I think he's won some pretty pointless title (That Irish title), had some absolute stinkers (Mutley) and basically gone nowhere (Not all his fault, mind you).

If he is in the same position as he is now by the end of next year he should call it quits, imo.

Gavin is the kind of talent that you'd mention alongside Mayweather/Cotto in 2 years time IF he was on his A-Game for every fight that he's had. But people talk about if he'd be able to beat Vassel/Brook/Matthew Hatton etc.

Audley? Who know's how far he could of gone if he got his head down and cracked on with the job! I've seen some of his amateur footage and he had it all for a guy his size.

Where's Mr Palmer? He's the resident expert on all things Gavin.

He's going around all the boxing gyms in Britain to uncover whether it is only the Gallagher gym that is a safe haven for questionable facial hair, or if it's an epidemic sweeping British boxing. He's the Gabriel Montoya of facial hair.
