I think that's somewhat underestimating the psychological needs of being a fighter, mate.

The most that goes wrong with me is I miss a typo. He gets his face smashed in.

Rob's a nice enough guy, but he is a pompous, know-nothing ***** on here. His Gavinweight agenda was painful to witness.

I'm not interested in getting into a pissing contest either as everyone's psychological make up is different - meaning there really is no such thing as a "normal bloke" really - but surely you can agree though that if a fighter's head's not in the game then he shouldn't be in the ring?

I've got nothing against him, other than some of his threads are a bit pish and his "unofficial world rankings" are tosh. And not the good kind of Tosh.

I agree, but that says something I think about that fighters ability or otherwise to bite down and achieve in the ring.....as you suggest, 90% of the game is mental.

Valid point, but Gavin did seem to have quite a lot of personal stuff going on over the last few years so I can understand boxing being on the back burner for a bit.

He's still young though, and going through this sort of stuff now might actually benefit him. If he's got himself focused he's game through genuine adversity in his personal life that should, in theory, make it easier to cope with it going forward. Hopefully anyway.

Don't think any of us is in a position to judge a man so early in his life.

His talent is being wasted but its down to him to use it.

Hope he gets over whatever problems he has.

Same for a soldier, firefighter, police officer, doctor/nurse plenty of men have difficult jobs and personal lives and manage

My dad was a fireman for 30 years - a station officer for a good portion of it - and he recommended some of his crew take personal time off for the sort of stuff Gavin was going through.

But you're forgetting one thing when you compare those jobs - they have contracted hours, shift patterns, regular salary. It's their job. But if they decide they don't want to run into burning buildings and risk their live, they can leave it. You can't force someone to do that job, just the same as you can't force a boxer into the ring. But a fireman going through serious personal problems can be signed off by a doctor on sick leave - or whatever the **** it is the government changed the term to - if you're suffering from stress, depression etc. Boxers don't, yet they'll get moaned about by fans for pulling out of a fight when in other jobs they'd probably be on the sick.

yeah fair point, ice, but I think that for boxing, along with other careers like military, medical careers etc having your head right is more significant since their jobs are more demanding and could have greater consequences if they **** up.

He does have to take some responsibility for his career but maybe people are being a little harsh.

He hasnt lived up to the expectations so far but he has had a lot of personal problems and he is still only 26 and still unbeaten.

He hasnt let anyone down and the sky is still the limit, he needs to be more active and I honestly think he needs to look at moving away from Frank ****** because he losing his grip on british boxing and isnt putting on enough shows for a fighter like Frankie to really progress.

no Frankie Gavin Is a Bum
he was a glorified amateur fighter who failed to make weight for the last olympics,
He Goes into the pro ranks has a bunch of fights against substandard opposition.
He faces an ex-footballer turned boxer and is given the fight of his life,
comes here and posts on esb and becomes a legend on here.similar to his mate tony bellew
