Why was Greb ranked as no.1 so late?

Really... what would that case be then... Greb himself stopped fighting Gene because he couldn't beat him. Too big and too good. So by all means, please make a case for him being 3-2... Everything I've read on the fights have Tunney taking the majority.

To anybody that rates Greb above SRR...

You think Video evidence is of the same level of proof as ringside reports in judging fights on a technical basis and as far as how the fight played out?

it's a fair question and if video evidence/analysis rates heavily in your criteria, then greb obviously ranks low.

some criteria focus more on resume, opponent quality or h2h. it depends what your interests are

Well, we can still use some of the other criteria you listed AND have video evidence. So the question, which you avoided is still... Which is OVERALL better when evaluating a fighter.. one with video evidence or one without?

:thinki don't think it's one or the other but i definitely would prefer to have video evidence. i'm with you on that. but when you have the resume of greb, footage simply isn't needed to properly evaluate him. same for langford and fitz really

Here's a quote from former poster Klompton, who has done more research on Greb and probably knows more facts about him than any person alive:

Tunney didnt win the series. Greb won the first. He was out and out robbed in the second fight. Tunney won the third. Greb won the newspaper decisions in all of the Cleveland papers except one which had it a draw. Tunney won the fifth. Thats three for Greb and two for Tunney.

And for the record, Greb was almost matched to fight Tunney in Miami in 1926. Gene backed out when the Dempsey fight became an option. So Harry was more than willing to fight Tunney again.

Klompton also said that George Chip did really well in his fight with Les Darcy...expecting his 'word' to be the "be all...end all"... Darcy beat the absolute stuffing out of Chip...but when realizing footage was out there started changing his tune saying Chip was so tired, had a cold, dog died..etc. Pass a grain of salt please on klompton...very knowledgeable yes...very biased yes!
