From Bangkok Post: "Buakaw Por Pramuk announced his retirement from Muay Thai yesterday after talks aimed at solving a financial dispute with the Por Pramuk boxing camp broke down. This content is protected Muay Thai superstar Buakaw "Por Pramuk" Banchamek tells reporters of his decision to retire. The world famous Thai Fight champion said he could not agree on a new contract with his boxing camp. The saga seemed to have reached a conclusion on May 22 when both parties made a deal that would allow the former K1 champion a bigger share of his fight fees as well as other income. Under the agreement, Buakaw would receive 60 percent of fight fees and prize money and get 75 percent from other sources such as TV appearances and product endorsements. But at yesterday's meeting to finalise the deal at the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) headquarters, Buakaw demanded full control of his commercial rights and 100 percent of any earnings. Por Pramuk camp owner Pramuk Rojanatan refused to yield to his demands and as the discussions grew increasingly heated, the fighter surprised everyone by announcing his retirement. "I want to announce that I will not fight anymore," said the 30-year-old Muay Thai superstar, who reportedly received 1.2 million baht per bout. "I am sorry to say that and I made this decision by myself." Buakaw, whose real name is Sombat Banchamek, added that from now on he would focus on training young people at his Banchamek camp in his native province of Surin. Buakaw was robbed when they met. :deal Don't reckon Petrosyan ever fancied a rematch as he never fancied a bout with JWP after seeing the Buakaw JWP bout in 2004. Both guys problems for Petrosyan and he knew it.

By the way in that vid the japanese fighter the camera annoyingly keeps switching back to was Takayuki Kohiruimaki who Buakaw would fight next. No offence IB, I'm a fan, especaily of your fight night commentaries but I can't agree with you on this one and I don't think to many MT guys will either. Evenly matched maybe in kickboxing terms, but not in MT terms and I don't think elbows were allowed in this one , a great weapon for Buakaw. Buakaw wins the 1st, creams the 2nd, you give the 3rd to Petro, the 4th to Buakaw and except for a throw and one heavy combination early it's all Buakaw in the 5th. Petro's one of those guys even when he loses the round it feels close. I've posted it below, watch it again and don't belive Petro and his corner's hype at the end. (What's going on with those score cards I wonder). Petro isn't the same fighter under MT rules. Even though he comes out of an MT background, he fights better as a kickboxer. He's too reliant on his hands, lacks heavy power in his feet and never seems comforatable with knees to be a top flight MT fighter IMO, hence why he doesn't fight in Thailand and rarely under full MT rules. I've got no evidence Yaca but, that's why he didn't fancy the Buakaw rematch and why he didn't fancy JWP. It seems that loss in Lumpinee really got to him. Absolutely, agree Yaca I think he defined K1 Max. I love watching that 2004 max tourney and I love watching that Takayuki Kohiruimaki fight, he totally exposes him which I really enjoy as I never liked him. Thought he was overrated and was lucky to get the decision over Zambidis. :-( The JWP fight is a good one shame they met each other so early cos I reckon any other way and they would have met in the final. It's a weird fight in someways as they are both so clearly MT guys but they are fighting without their full arsenals. About the Petro Buakaw JWP thing see my post to IB.
This. Based solely on my interpretation of events. I think before that fight with Nonthanan Por. Pramuk Giorgio wanted to be a top Muaythai fighter and was willing to even fight in the stadiums to do it. After that fight his goals changed and decided to become more of a kickboxer... and became one of the best to ever compete. I dont blame him for making that choice Petro is definitely more suited for kickboxing anyway considering his fists are his main weapon. Without punching power could never had been victorious in the stadiums since punches are not scored as much as kicks by the judges. I just wish we had that video of Nonthanan vs Petrosyan to see how that fight played out.:-(
Yeah, I agree he had high MT ambitions, but he just wasn't sutited to it. I don't belame him for the change, you have to go where you can make the most money or where you can become top tier and for Petro it was kickboxing. That Nonthanan clip must be out there somewhere, I'll try to find it on Thai sites.
After watching this I go along with everything I said in the other Buakaw thread. Good move, get your freedom back from those horrible slave masters and move on with what looks to be a good future once the dust settles. Thai superstardom awaits (well kind of). Lot's of Thai TV, Thai movies away from boxing and in boxing, he'd be hot stuff on the seminar circut in Europe, America, and Japan. Back in Thailand he'll train fighters and I'm sure there willbe a conatanst flowof many forigen students to keep the gym ticking over. The future looks bright for the great white lotus!!
True. It just seems like their is so many fights left for buakaw that we will never see. But for Buakaw Banchamek himself, this is the best thing he can do now. Thats what REALLY matters. Best of luck to him.
