It's a hard case to judge I think fella, seems to be a case of ''Well if they are doing it...''

This is slowly becoming the norm, which at least levels the playing field somewhat :think

The issue is how much it raises their levels.

Chael Sonnen failed his test because his levels were above the legal level, and it was TRT.

Dan Henderson hardly has normal levels after using TRT.

People like Sonnen and possibly Mir have an excuse now to have testosterone levels above the legal limit.

That is sort of a loophole.

Reposts of what I already said are in italics.

    No, it isn't.

I get the sense that Mir made a conscious decision in his career to bulk up a few fights ago, after being overpowered by Lesnar.

    Probably never.

He isn't going to have the speed to keep up with Junior, ever. But he could be lighter on his feet than he is.

Do you think it's impossible for any version of 2012 Frank Mir to weigh 10-15 pounds less than the current version? :huh

Do you think it's not a legitimate thought that a slightly lighter version of Frank Mir might be a little more explosive in his movements and have a little bit more cardio? :blood

Because any version of Frank Mir is going to get slaughtered on his feet by JDS. And any version of Frank Mir will have the advantage on the ground. Therefore, it's a question of which possible version of Frank Mir will have his best chance at taking Junior down.

I happen to think that against JDS, a little bit more speed and cardio would help Mir more than a little bit extra mass and strength. That might not be the case against every opponent. Against a monster like Brock, Mir wants to be as strong as possible. And indeed it seems that Mir bulked up around the time he was fighting Lesnar, his career's most high-profile fights. At Mir's age he can't just shed that extra bulk. But if he had never put it on, then he could have been 10-15 pounds lighter. I'm not asking him to be a 220 pounder. :-(

    :patsch

I still think JDS wins 8 fights out of 10 against any version of Mir. He's basically the worst possible style matchup for Mir.

I think the problem might be that this is an evenhanded stance, and you don't really comprehend any opinion more complex than "x is good/y sucks." :good

I wish I knew more about this issue, but as yet I don't feel that I know enough to really have a stance on what should be done about this apparently growing issue. :-(

Well Mir came in at his lightest for years against Brock too, and took the worst beating of his life, maybe...

    I really dont understand

When in his entire UFC tenure was Mir quick enough to deal with JDS?

How was he supposed to train to attain this speed at this stage of his career

How would being smaller and quicker, when he's normally between 250 - 260 have help him over come the striking disadvantage he faced in this fight?

this just doesnt make zero logical sense. Im really at a loss as too how Mir could and should have come in quicker as you claim.

I think Pat Barry should come in with longer legs in his next fight, he is currently coming in way to short to be competitive against the bigger HW's

MMA has a major drugs problem.

2% of the male population require testosterone replacement treatment yet we are led to believe all these fighters need it? It's a joke!!!

Frank should have tried to initiate more clinches than he did. With the exception of his shot in the first round he didn't fight like a jiujitsu fighter.

I think Mir kept his bulk because if he managed to get the fight to the ground he could use the size advantage there. But Mir at 245 still wouldn't help on the feet against JDS anyhow so he might as well keep the size and hope he could use it in his territory......of course he didn't get that chance. JDS has taken Chuck's sprawl and brawl to a new level.

I think the smaller faster version of Sugar Ray Mir of the Brock fight where he came in at 245, his lightest for years, maybe would not win, but would do MUCH better against JDS. Everyone knows this. He kodded Nog, this means he is an ATG as the PRIDE HW division was vastly overrated. Tim Sylvia's stand up is underrated as well because he jabbed 5ft 8 Jeff Monson in the face a few times.

I mean, the fact that he spent 5 minutes in there with a man who wasn't sitting on his punches and was methodically wearing Mir down for the kill, maintaining distance to avoid the TD means his chin isnt poor as well :good

He just came in too big and too slow. Since the Carwin fight his footwork and stand up has been plodding at best. He needs to loose some weight, then we will see the REAL Sugar Ray Mir :happy

As I understand it, everyman will have lower testosterone levels as they age. I'm not aware of any abnormality in your everyday man but suddenly fighters are grouchey and feel a million dollars after using it. At present, all we can ask is the fight declares it and stays within the limits. However its use all together is questionable.

The question is as we age naturally, should we be able to use substances to fight off father time.
