straight up G ****. Tarver has swag out the ass, RJJ, i was a big fan, but when Tarver did that I became a fan. Now imagine how bad that wouldve looked had Jones beat him and or KO'd him. good thing the boxing gods were on Tarvers side when Jones through that slow ass wide left hook.
I wonder why more boxers don't take the chance to say something during that moment. It's very rare. I noticed that it also happened in the Bradley vs Holt fight. Holt said something like 'let me know if you ready -- you ready to see this heart?'. He then went on to knock Bradley down in the first round with a monster hook. Maybe it really does have an effect. **** Antonio Tarver. Biggest win was that KO against a 35 year old, past prime Roy who'd ****ed his body up going to Heavyweight for Ruiz. Roy looked like **** in the first Tarver fight and for those 2 rounds in the second too, those legendary reflexes completely shot, yet Tarver still lost the first fight and built a career around the win in the 2nd. Tarver ain't **** and never was.
One of my favorite moments in boxing. I worked with a big Jones fan who talked **** for a month and had a fight party. Tarver shut him up. When I met Antonio last summer, I told him I was a fan they spouted that line. He broke out a huge smile and laughed
mad me sad!! Tarver was giving loads after that, even talking about fighting Tyson, which seemed like Btalk/G leon hype. remember the back and forth with mike and tarver on Btalk???
Wonder how much longer Jones would have lasted? had Tarver not landed that punch, and Jones got a decision?
Not much longer. 35 years old, the reflexes weren't what they were, and for a fighter with Roy's style, reflexes and speed are everything. I believe going up to Heavyweight for Ruiz did harm to his body also. They were a great band by the way, shame they've finished up.
Funny because Tarver, after gaining weight for the Rocky movie and then coming back down (and at his age), had excuses when he felt drained against Hopkins...but still wanted full credit for Roy.
the tarver during the rocky movie stage and tyson were pushing for a fight, hyping it up etc but had no interest! Imagine that?
