Was MAB in his prime during the first Pacman fight?

And Tapia was moving up, Kelly was done as a fighter, and even then MAB looked sluggish and sloppy.

Not the fast, crisp puncher we knew in his abosloute prime.

People need to realize that MAB wasn't the same after the first Morales fight... Was he hella good when Pac beat him, yes, but not prime by any means.

It was a past prime barrera. Barrela already been in many wars before the first pac fight. He clearly look past it.

close to his prime if not in it, but more distractions before that fight than any other fight of his career. The absolute worst time for him to face a young beast like Manny.

For Manny to face MAB in his pure prime, he would have had to fight him a few years earlier and a weight class down at 122. That version of MAB would have went to war with Manny, just pure vicious war, and I'm not sure there's EVER been a fighter below welterweight that can beat Manny Pacquiao in that kind of fight.

I'm a huge MAB fan, but it's no shame to say that Manny is just a better fighter. I have no problem with it, Marco has no problem with it. I believe he's finally come to the view that it was an honor to have been the one to introduce Pac to the world at large and you should keep in mind that Marco didn't have to take that fight. He LOOKED for Manny, and not because he was sure he could beat him but because he liked the way he fought. He said that Manny reminded him of a younger version of himself and he deserved the shot and Marco should be shown love by all Pac fans for that.

Truth is I really don't know why the talk has always been "Morales a G"

when Marco is actually close in terms of legacy.

In fact a decade ago Marquez was not considered at the same level as the other two.

Morales' win over Pacquiao and bludgeoning Jones, a guy that beat Barrera twice, is what sets them apart. But Yes, it's close.

Because Morales IS a G, but so are MAB and JMM. Best ****ing featherweight era in history imo. I think Marco's legacy is just as good as EM's, thought that Pac victory does weigh very heavy in EM's resume. The people who really followed the Mexican fighters back then knew JMM belonged in that group, he just couldn't get the fights he needed to prove it.

I think Erik once said that Jone's right hand was about as hard as he was ever hit in his career. That was actually a very tough, back and forth fight before EM got the edge. MAB was doing better with Jones than EM did until he got caught flush by that right hand, and he was too tentative in the rematch trying to use a boxing style and not risking getting caught by that thunderbolt from on high. Jones gets underrated, he was a hell of a fighter. So was McKinney.

Well yeah, just making a point.

I fell that Barrera is a bit forgotten due to the fact that he's the first to completely retire.

Truth is there Mexico has 3 legends all fighting at the same time back in the last decade.

    That' pretty much it.

It's just unfortunate that politics prevented Barrera from achieveing more at 118.

I heard him say just a couple months ago that Manny was an absolute stylistic nightmare for him and it wouldn't have mattered when they fought.
He's big enough to admit that Pac had his number and he just couldn't get into it.
