Malinga's punches have lost almost all their steam. Body work.

Kid does need to tighten up before he steps up. He's raw, and hittable, and needs to settle down.

Loads of potential, though. In a year or two, I think he'll be totally ready to challenge a top 5 and quite possibly win.

    Round 11

Santa Cruz is landing left jabs at will, staying in close and ducking and rolling under Mulinga's counter flurries. Santa Cruz lands his hook to the body and then whips it around up top to the back/side of Mulinga's head. Jabs to the grill by Santa Cruz. Nice straight left lead by Mulinga! Doesn't slow Santa Cruz down. He just keeps jabbing from a stone's throw away. Mulinga flurries stoically, and misses.

    110-99 Santa Cruz

Malinga walks into a right hand and a left hook and then is turned. Hard right uppercut. Looping right around Malinga's guard and then a right to the body. Curz shoeshining malinga to the body. Right hook to the body and upper cut. Straight right lands on Malinga then Cruz peppers him with teh jab. Hard right hand to the body of Malinga. Hard left hand catches malinga and he keeps presing. Right hands to the head and body landing cleanly for Santa Cruz.

:blood Did you only start watching a couple of rounds ago?

He has felt what Mulinga has to offer and isn't worried about it. He was barely getting touched early on, and even now Mulinga is landing a bit. (not a fraction of what Santa Cruz is)

Has there been a single break from the ref?

    They haven't tied up.

Maybe shouldn't have been #1 contender, but that isn't to take away from the performance. Mulinga showed up game, and yes he did get dominated.

If he continues to produce performances like this, we'll be referring to the next technically sound, hard hitting volume punching Mexican as being the next Leo Santa Cruz.

Oh...Has Morales been mentioned as a comparison, btw? :D

yeah, that's all i meant by the margarito comparison. . . santa cruz is definitely more fluid, faster, better defense, etc. . but he still looks flat footed, and he just keeps coming forward, plodding away, letting hte hands go in 5,6,7,8 punch combinations nonstop. . .

it's undeniable there are similarities between him and margarito's style. . . Cruz is just looking much more refined. . .
