Lionel Rose what a great man he was. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1081315/index.htm
Sad how he ended up but he was all class. A shame people stereotype Aborigines the way they do. They should pay more attention to good role models such as Lionel.
He did well in rising to the occasion to beat the great Harada..but he had a problem with his chin. I kept up with his reign..he hit the deck vs Jose Medel, Takeo Sakauri, Chucho Castillo..none of them in the class as punchers with Olivares. Poor Rose never had a chance with El Puas...Olivares just owned him. He was a fine fighter though, IMO..I liked him.
I think u will find a lot of thoxe issues had with having to make weight which he greatly struggled with. Also getting dropped dont mean u got a bad chin, just means u were outmanouvered and knockwd off balance. Getting KO'd means u got a bad chin.
The motorcade began at the airport and went all the way to Melbourne Town Hall. I've heard an estimated 250,000 people crammed the streets to cheer Rose on.
