A solid fighter. Very good technique.. Borded line hofer. Maybe a few more wins at cruiser an he gets it. Why so little fights through oit his pro career?
Tarver will be remembered as a very good fighter who ended the Roy Jones era of dominance at Light Heavyweight, but ultimately was overrated a bit in doing so since he basically beat a shell of Roy. I don't think his resume is very comparable to Cotto's.
Hell with the if.......Tarver should retire tomorrow. Watching geriatric showtime last night was dreadful. I'm sick of all these matches being put on our plates. How many prime vs prime fights do we actually see? Its usually either a prime up and comer against an over the hill once great, or an older fighter late in his twilight against a too raw up and comer. Sick of this. Wright and Tarver were obviously old in the ring, slow, no snap on the punches. Kayode is just bad, that's the only reason Tarver hung in there. Tarver is no hall of famer. But he did have his moments along the way, and he's a good announcer for the most part, but please hang them up!
Tarver is competing at a championship/contender level and going off the Green performance (missed last nights) there is no reason for him to chuck the towel in just yet. I believe he did have Kayode hurt sometime around the 9th and could have stopped him had he stepped on the gas a bit? Wright, Mosley, Holyfield etc are a different story.
In my humble opinion anyway, Tarver joined the club above last night. He is 43 years old and his fight against Greene was almost a year ago. I think if he could have stepped on the gas, he would of, but the engine just isn't revving for him anymore. Even a year ago he likely would have finished Kayode. But if he wants to fight still, I'm sure there will be fights to take, however I don't think they belong on the main event of Championship boxing at all.
