Best Boxing Autobiographies you've read?

Read a few and without a doubt Tapias.

 

Barry McGuigan very good book
Ricky Hatton boring
Joe Calzaghe Boring

 

Agree with Calzaghe. Hardly anything about his life other than boxing, the Duff stories were good though, for somebody who doesn't like Duff anyway.

 

Raging Bull is fantastic, brutally honest really well written. Highly recommend it.

 

And same goes for Bruno's actually.

 

Oscar's was very good.

 

Did he speak about his vice of dressing up and affairs?

 

Ray Leonards. Unexpectedly brutally honest.

 

Oscar's book was a real good read, one I took on holiday and couldn't put down. He went on about his mum and her desire for him to be a winner. He did put in a few bits about the ladies in his life hubba hubba and the stuff he got into. He also went on about the other people in his life that took care of him and his finances. I gave my copy to a boy in my work or i would have sent it to you. I got it out of the pound shop so keep a look out for it. If you want the Hatton one I can post it on i was going to give it in to a charity shop.

 

Johnny Nelson's, Frank Maloney's and Herbie Hide's are all good reads.

Oscar is an oddball, I am glad he wrote about the vices because I resent people who leave out massive topics because of embarrassment. If your selling your booko I won't to know everything, not just the bits you want us to know but the stuff you don't want us to know.

Trust me on this one....joe Louis's one is an amazing read....it's like sitting next to him in a bar for a few hours why he tells you everything, warts and all....he leaves nothing out, including a lot of detail about a girlfriend who was a porn actress who got him hooked on drugs for example....he boxed for a lot of the last years, even while still champ where he hated boxing and wanted so much to get out of it....
A lot of great reading in this book.

Cool, I just think he is a guy that has and had everything that every man walking would love to have, but has got his own down falls. I think there was a lot left out that book though, I think he got in to a lot more **** than what he put in it. Hat's off to a guy that came from nothing and has achieved what he has plus he gives back to the community he came from got to admire that to be honest, a lot of millionaires would just take their money and run.
