Freddy Roach is overrated as a trainer Nonito Donaire is ducking Mares Gamboa's style has some big flaws Sergio Martinez is #2 P4P Victor Ortiz would beat Pacquaio Bob Arum is ruining Pac's legacy
Martinez is overrated Bute didn't get a long count Trinidad's career at 147 was a sham Alvarez is ready for Mayweather
1. Mosley would have beaten Berto before it was cancelled. 2. Lewis beats any HW prime for prime 3. Alex Ariza seems like a reasonable guy 4. Trinidad was overrated and lost to DLH 5. Bernard Hopkins would never have beaten calzaghe. 6. Wlad easily beats Tyson. 7. Barrera got screwed by frank ****** and amir khan 8. Meldrick Taylor KO was legit. 9. We never found out how good roy jones actually was and as such he doesn't deserve such a mythical h2h rating against everyone. 10. Hagler is a p4p atg top 5 lock.
Marvin Hagler clearly beat Ray Leonard, and is on the 5 greatest fighters ever Joe Louis is the greatest heavyweight of all time Joe Calzaghe in his prime could very possibly beat Roy Jones in his prime, and would have beat Hopkins much worse at smw.
Is this really that controversial? Surely most people realise that the way he treated Joe Frazier and all that other racist nonsense he used to spout made him a bit of a *****? Albeit a talented one. You'd need to have some seriously rose tinted spectacles to get around his behaviour and only look at his mellowed behaviour since he retired to avoid thinking that. Although Froch got blasted for saying he 'wasn't a fan' so you may be onto something.
Both Sergio Martinez & Nonito Donaire are extremely overrated. Mayweather Vs. Pacquiao is a mismatch (Floyd>) JMM is 3 & 0 Vs. Pacquiao. Margarito has been handicapped in all his BIG fights. Roy Jones Jr. Is overrated & will drop in the ATG list over time. More later...
DLH never beat an "A Class" fighter. Rocky Marciano loses to a TON of heavyweights from the 70's to today, like guys who didn't win titles. Teddy Atlas didn't will Moorer to win the title, his "motivational" speech is overrated.
Alvarez would beat Cotto if they fought now. Cotto would get wrecked trying to pressure Alvarez, and if he tried to box and move as he did against Margarito the second time, he would probably be up after 8-9 rounds but he would be tired and ground down by Alvarez in the championship rounds. Alvarez is also probably the toughest fight left for Floyd that Floyd might actually take (there's simply no way he fights Martinez, even though fighting Martinez is the only really excusable non-Pacquiao fight for him to take.) Swap the DLH gameplans from Mosley I and Trinidad and he wins both fights. While we're here, DLH-Quartey was a 114-113 win for DLH on my card. Not a robbery. DLH-Whitaker I scored 114-112 for DLH. Tyson Fury is not as bad as people claim he is. He would wreck Povetkin and would also beat Chisora again in a rematch. He likely gets KO'd against Wlad and loses a wide decision vs. Vitali right now, but I think Fury improves over the next few years and claims a belt after the Klitschkos retire. Kirkland and Alvarez WILL fight eventually, and the winner of that fight will be Floyd's next opponent. Either way, Floyd gets a marketable opponent and someone he can beat. Roach is not a good trainer. At all. He's slightly above average. He might be great at conditioning his guys, but strategically and in terms of in-corner advice between rounds, he's terrible. Pedro Diaz, however, is a great trainer. Him and Naazim are the two best trainers left in the sport (though Steward and Floyd Sr. are both very good as well.) Victor Ortiz is an even bigger waste of talent than Andrew Golota used to be. I'll post some more later. This is a fun thread and it has legs :good
Def agree lots of HW's starch Marciano even in this supposedly weak era I see contenders like haye and thompson having way way to much for rocky never mind the the K bros.......
Thank you for your agreement. But be prepared, have this conversation with anyone over 50 and be prepared to be laughed out of the room, or be faced with things about how big his "heart" was and he was "the only undefeated champion in history!!!" (good feat, I agree) But preparing valid arguments, such as Rocky Marciano was short and fought at under the old cruiserweight limit of 190, won't work with most people.
I already know about it. I've also had to hear about how hard he punched according to ali when making that ridiculous fantasy match up video. I like the old fighters but people need to wake up to reality.
